I bought two weeks ago a R9 290 Sapphire.

The first reported several freezes me, so to make sure it was not software, formatted it and installed the system Widows 8.1.

In vain, and to see who was still freezing, I went to the guarantee that I give me another. Three days ago I got another, which so far has not given me problems as it has become to be frozen. The freezes are completely random: I'm just checking that game, it freezes.

I do not know what to do, so I ask for help here to see if someone can help me. I leave here the specs of my PC if it is helpful:
PSU: Nox VX 750W
CPU: Phenom II X4 960t (unlocked to X6 and up to 3.5 GHz)
MBO: Asus M5A88-M
RAM: X2 G. Skill 4GB 1600MHz CL9
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (is practically new, I do not think that is the problem, but just in case ...)

Should be mentioned that only happens to me with AMD drivers . With that brings Windows default does not occur ( although obviously little I can do with them).

Thanks for your answer

So far I've had a little something in case, it's back to 4 cores and stock Frecuencies.

I will try to rule well be CPU, while I'm waiting for some final drivers

By the way, in the event viewer gives me an error called Kernel-PnP.

If is because AMD drivers, we only can wait to final drivers...

I don't know if AMD know it, but if they knows and not do anything, I think a full-blown scam. Costs 350 , at least in Spain. What Unless a well finished product.

I flashed the BIOS this morning to an Asus BIOS, but the problems no are gone... ¿It's possible to flash a Sapphire BIOS to your Powercolor OC BIOS?

Thanks! ^^

Hi All,

Has anybody tried using oc tools to resolve their issues with the R9 290?

My Gigabyte R9 290 came with OC GuruII. At first I had mayor stabillity issues, which I could pinpoint to having a thermal reason. Because everyone said that this card is supposed to be loud, and mine wasn't, I started playing with driver settings in combination with OC Guru II.

I have my system running perfectly now with the following:

Latest AMD Catalyst driver 13.11 Beta9.4 because the beta is not running my fans on high enough speeds I use OC Guru II to take care of fan speeds. And what do you know, no more thermal issues and I'm able to play BF3 for hours and hours!

needless to say, I'm a happy camper now! However I will be on the lookout for a solutions from AMD, as this card out of the box is not working at all! Once you put some load on it, it rockets to 95c and then crashes your computer.

Hi! In my case it isnt a thermal issue.... i have replaced the original cooler with an arctic acellero extreme iii. temperatures always under 60 c. its pssible to overclock my card to 1090 Mhz without voltage add and always runs fine... The problem with the freezes is another and starts before the cooler replacement... if the luck is on my side i can play battlefield 3 4 hours, if theres bad luck 1 minute...

we will see. if nothing driver related happens the next card is from another company :-(

@skabeis

And you are using the latest Catalyst Beta? Cause I also had blackscreens in BF3 with the older driver. So I had to use beta 9.4 to get BF running, and then had to use OC guru II to keep my temps in check.

Agreed that AMD should step forward with a decent solutions, this is really bad for their name (while everybody allready knows that Nvidia has better stability), but at the cost of mayor $$$.

I find myself amazed.

Finally I solved disabling the audio driver AMD. Took almost 48 hours without freezing. To dasactivarlos (this may be very obvious, but no one is born knowing) you should go to Managed devices, sound drivers and DISABLE (only disable, not uninstall) the audio driver AMD. Reboot and go.

I did it because I crasheaba Metro Last Light, and finally proven solution to the rest of my problems. Mention that use BIOS OC Powercolor which contributed Skabeis
