I have the Black Screen problem on my Asus R290.
It occurs randomly, never happends while running MSI Kombustor. Heaven Benchmark may run without a problem or may end up with a "black screen " in 5 mins.

Also there is a BSOD problem. It only happens, if there is an application that shows the cpu /gpu temperature (hwmonitor , coreTemp) . If i dont use those applications , system works fine without a single BSOD .

Asus GPU Tweak software causes screen fickers , system freezes. Thats the only application that those flickers etc happen.

Do others experience these BSOD 's or screen flickers in addition to "black screen " problem?

Is there an explanation from AMD? Should i wait the new drivers , or shall i just RMA the card? RMA is a bit cumbersome process , i don't want to go this route until i am sure.

Just wait for next drivers, like me...

AMD is probably working 24/7 to find a solution.

Guess that's why there is still no new driver update, they haven't found it yet...

The longer it takes, the more I think it's a hardware problem.

For all those who are having the black screen, funny lines bad vid play back, "drivce has recovered from..." etc etc as I had; here is maybe a tip that will help as it seems to have helped me: Roll back CCC too 13.1. It seems to have made a big difference for me.

In fact it's the one that AMD offer if so wish to follow thatroute: -  http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous/detail?os=Windows+Vista+-+64&rev=13.1

First post.

Thought I might share my experience.

I'm also suffering with black screens BUT

I'm only having the issue if I run a game within the first couple minutes of starting my pc in the morning

after then it works perfectly and I can max it out with benchmarking software (I got 8882 score with firestrike, I54670K CPU)

I've got a gigabyte windforce r9 290.

Well I gave up waiting for new drivers that probably won't fix a hardware problem...

So today I took out my Asus R9 290X and sent it back to AMD, let them chew on that biggrin.gif

Put back in the card that NEVER let me down, my happily not sold HD 7850 smile.gif

Thought I checked my memory module, yes ofcourse HYNIX...

About 2 weeks ago , I got the black screen and when I rebooted, I had horizontal lines on the sign in screen. After signing in, I would get the black screen right before reaching the desktop, though I could load up fine in safe mode. I tried everything including reinstalling my original system software from day one. From that point I could start windows but when I installed the drivers  for my Sapphire Radeon 6850, I would get the same issue. I'm not sure if there was an automatic driver update that intitiated this problem. When nothing else worked, I decided to purchase another video card(XFX Radeon R7-260)The horizontal lines were gone and everything seemed fine until a day later, the black screen returned and the only temporary resolution is to reboot. The horizontal lines are gone and there is no issues with rebooting. 2 days later, I got a 2nd black screen, leading to a reboot and 3 hours later my 3rd black screen in the middle of a game of Madden. Can anyone help me load older drivers to hopefully solve this issue. Now I'm wondering if my Radeon 6850 was fine and also if I should just find a comparable Nvidia card since it almost seems like a driver issue.

Waiting for ASUS to replace my blackscreening R9 290X.

In the meanwhile I am running a Sapphire R9 290X Tri X (Hynix), which is fast, quiet and NOT BLACKSCREENING!

Ordered 5x   Sapphire R9 290X Tri OC

Running

Asus x79 Sabertooth
i7-3930k
16 GB (DDR3 1600)
1000 Watt Power supply
Win 7
Tried 1 or 2 GPU setup

Blank screen, not able to see anything once Windows 7 boot up complete (just before logon prompt)

I can RDP into it fine

Used latest Linux Live CD, same once  it goes to GUI interface.

Also I only see 640x480 display option. Since I had multiple cards, I thought maybe this GPU was bad, replaced it with another same result.

Tried:
AMD Catalyst™ 14.1 Beta Driver for Windows,
AMD  Catalyst Software Suite 13.12 for Windows

Issue is not related to OS, or a bad GPU card (unless it is whole batch).

I paid $799 + tax each card.

AMD PLEASE RESPOND

Hi

Same here.  Ordered 4 days ago MSI R9 290 Gaming. Black screens happen randomly mostly during working on desktop.  Both on 14.1 and 13.12 drivers.

Since i changed the card (previous was HD4850) i use CPU saving energy (Cool&Quiet), I will try to test  without this CPU mode.

Is AMD able to say something about it? It is veeery anoyng ...  I hope it's only software bug, not hardware ...

ASUS M4A78T-E

Power supply 750W

Regards

Lukas

I got my r9 290 3 days ago and experienced multiple blackscreen crashes too. I swept my Display drivers and reinstalled it freshly.  Now i have no Ingame Problems anymore BUT the card chrashes while playing videos on youtube and after standby.

I would appreciate any help to fix this Problem or else i am forced to send it back. I really like the ingame performances but i have no use for a faulty 400 Euro card that can`t play videos.

System:

Sabertooth 990fx rev2

FX8350

2x 8gb 1600 ddr3 ram

Win 8.1 64 bit

Display Driver 14.1

ps: are these crashes only software caused or is this a hardware failiure? would be nice to know.

Yesterday it crashed several times searching for new wallpapers ... so for me it doesnt crash when playing youtube vids only.

It also crashed while starting magic 2014. No Problems in Bf4 or Rome 2 whatsoever.

This card is making me crazy. why isnt there any statement from the official side???

i think i will return it on monday. ill get me a refund and play with my 6870 for a few months and check in if the error still exists. or ill switch to nvidia after 3 series of amd cards which did their job quite well. but in this state the r9 290 is a waste of money.

20 days ago, I sent my Asus R290 to RMA .
And today , it is sent back to me, cause they didn't find any problem with it.

Thank you Asus and AMD  , for manufacturing a malfunctioning card, and not taking responsibility for it.

And what am i supposed to do with this?  Shall i just throw it in the garbage?

TRock, where do you live, where did you buy the card from and where exactly did you send the card to for RMA?
