Isn'tthe 290 and 290 the same card but 290X is just a factory overclocked?



Evga GTX 770 2gb SC (switching it out with R9 290 4gb this saturday)
16gb 1600mhz

Hi the answer is no. The 290x was built to take the extra heat the 290 was not so if you over clock the card you will need a better cooling solution and over clocked parts if not done properly will shortin the life of the product. Also changing the heat sink will void the warranty.

The 290X features a fully enabled GPU while the 290 has some USPs disabled, usually via laser cuts. It's not possible to reflash the BIOS to enable them.
