Hello Everyone,

I recently upgraded my PC and purchased the r9 290 tri-x, PSU 760W and an SSD drive. Since then, at least once a day I'm getting windows to hang (8.1 64bit) with a blue screen sad face and the error code 0xa000001

I've also been digging in the windows debug info and it all points to the graphics card stops working, here is the output of windows debugger from today's crash:

Additionally I would like to mention that I tried to re-install the most up to date drivers but no change, I also noticed that after the installation completes, it shows that an error occured during the installation but when I open the log file everything says successfull (the XML log file), so I don't know what's up with that...
I'de really appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Did you do a google search for that error code? Plenty of info if you do. Like this

Thanks for you reply and yeah, I did searched this error code and found this thread. I'm not using any utility that reads temperatures though. The Windows moderator also hinted a faulty hardware and I'm hoping this is not the case...

I suggest some Arctic MX-4 for the CPU to be sure its removing heat efficiently

I tried it, works wonders for thermal issues

Sadly, it is the case. I just recently bought a r9 290 myself 2 days ago and since i installed it, i've been having nothing but balck screens, freezing and crashes. Checkout the other thread on this forum. the one called "290x issues, don't ignore us!!" something like that. You will be happy and sad at the same time knowing that your not the only one with a r9 290 problem. Im dropping mine off on monday to get it tested and hopefully replaced with a 770.

What is considered warm CPU temperature? Mine is usually around 40-50c ~, I don't think it's a problem...

i m experimenting the same bug as you have with the same graphic card as yours ..

first i though it was my CPU overcloacking, i disabled it for same result : bsod. Then i check with bluescreen viewer all dump files, and i saw that the 16-04 i had the same crash, but at this periode i was using 5850 crossfire. So i tried to clean drivers and instal again, still random bsod.

Now i don't really w hat to do, i did checked memory (memtest) : no probleme, same for CPU (occt) no pb, same for GPU (furmark) no probleme. But sometimes i crash randomly ...

If you find a solution could you share it here please, i'll do same if i do.

hey

Report Submitted

Thank you for submitting your report and your assistance in improving our drivers.

I hope this is drivers probleme, not hardware one, especially cause this is really random crash, so if i send my GPU to after sale service, and they don't have a crash when they make test, i will have to paye delivery cause no any probleme were found ... :/

hey man,

i m sad to read that,  i m giving new from my GPU after waiting for long month new drivers fixing my BSOD i finaly sent my card back 2 weeks ago, they send me my money back yesterday so i was able to buy the R9 290X tri-x instead of my R9 290 tri-x OC, i jsut hope that this model don't have lot of problemes as his little sister's, but i'm getting 2 years waranty again so it is ok.

>Wait and see now but if you are reading me and you are using a r9 290 tri-x OC and experimenting BSOD, jsut sent it back,  this model is having lot of troubles but waranty is working so ....

I have a few Radeon cards and I do not see the BSOD death, may you should look closer at the reast of the box and see if its all well

use a spare disk and try a clean fresh install of Windows and see if that is stable

if a game is a problem, what game? I have over 100 and I can advise

Yes off course it can be the system. So the thread owner has to check it.

But be sure there are many other moments where your GPU will trigger BSODs because of the driver.

Maybe next driver you think ...ohhhhh no BSOD ... but when you wait long enough you will get one .. or maybe next driver .. or BSODs where you think they are always gone are comming back.

Guys really. AMD dont worth the anger you have with. It costs me 6-8 month i guess to get a refund only because 2 weeks are gone and i have to make the send it to repair. get it back. send it to repair. get it back ..and again and than i get my money back ... ~ 6-8 month.

THANKS AMD i cant use the very expensive GPU because you cant build good driver.

you lucky guy .. the 2 weeks for me are over .. so i have to get through the send it back loop. 6-8 month it costs me.

AMD is not a working GPU solution.
