I have tried every beta driver for the past 3 months to no avail. on 2 PC's X58 and X79 both crash after reboot. Does not matter if its a fresh install of Windows 8.1 or a Safemode Removal of Drivers, Both exhibit same results. Black screen , then corrups purple blocks on all monitors, then crash reboot.

The system runs fine on 14.4 after a clean install. However even on a fresh Windows 8.1 install all screens start to flicker and the system crashes about 3 seconds after log in. the screens will go black, then eventually show a grid of bright colors on all monitors just before auto rebooting.

Graphics Card
Asus Direct CU-II OC R9 290X

Only over clock was from GPU Tweak (Since Uninstalled) from 1050 to 1070

i run both cards at 80% fan speed all the time to keep temps low

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
14.4 Currently Only Working Driver

14.5, 14.6, 14.7 all versions failed to install, after clean uninstall from safe mode. as well as fresh windows 8.1pro install still crashes.

Operating System
-Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Issue Details
-Install Windows 8.1 Clean from TechNet

-Disable AMD Update in Windows Update

Run All Windows Updates to Current

- Install Drivers mobo etc

- Install AMD 14.7 Drivers (check to Unblock EXE before running as admin)

- install has warnings, when i view list, none are listed.

- Reboot PC, Enable Eyefinity on 3 Identical Asus 1080P monitors

Connectors Usedre"> DVI - HDMI, DVI - HDMI, [DP-DVI](adapter)-DVI-HDMI(cable)

Once eyefinity is enabled the screens start to tear in the middle while moving windows, then a few moments later all screens go black and the system crashes, but shows a corrupt massivly screen just before crashing.

You say 14.4 is a working driver, then describe the system crashing 3 seconds after logging in with that driver.

Sounds like nothing is working and you have a defective card.

14.4 driver works. The 14.7, 14.6, 14.5 drivers all crashed after installation of the driver packages. It could be a defective card but running DDU in safe then installing the  14.4 drivers it works fine. The however from previous post was regarding any of the other driver packages. Im  simply stating that 14.4 works as a base line to the issue not being a defective card like most noobs immediatly jump to. This is obviously a driver or bios issues tied to the R9 290x cards.

Not to mention the 150 views on this post is enough evidence to it being a common problem.

So don't install the BETA (release candidate) drivers. Problem solved.

Given a CFX setup, your PSU probably is running warm with the extra hardware.

if recent driers are not working, you may need to install Windows fresh.

last weeks driver works with my hd 5450

I'm having the same issue with the Asus 290X OC Directcu II except its a single card configuration. Only working driver is the 14.4. Anything from 14.6 to 14.8 causes lockups and graphical anomalies. Was wondering if you could post your bios version from Gpuz?

thanks.
