I have an issue with Catalyst 12.6. During regular play of Diablo 3, my display driver will crash, this causes my desktop to freeze, except for the mouse, my screen will briefly turn black then my desktop will resume as tho nothing has happened, and I will be greeted with the "AMD display driver has stopped responding but has recovered" error message. This has occured with both 12.4 as well as 12.6. My brother has a 6570 and is using the 12.3 Catalyst package, he reports that he has no issues playing whatsoever, I tried using this package and for about 24 hours I didn't recieve the error.

Today I was playing and I got the error twice back to back and then a third time, approximately 20 minutes later but instead of the screen turning black it displayed several small grey vertical lines after which I got a BSOD. I have re-downloaded all driver packages that I have used, I have run virus scans as well as boot scans, I have done Memory and HD checks, each time before reinstalling driver software I have ran Driver Sweeper to clear out any offending packages. The only thing that comes to mind is that I did recieve warnings during installation of the Catalyst packages, but when i check the log everything that has a Status/Outcome area they are all reported as being successful, I had read that if the version of Microsoft C++ that would be installed by catalyst is already installed that this can sometimes cause the aforementioned warnings but I dont know how true this is. 

Any insight would be appriciated.

Updating your graphics driver is a option, not a requirement. Each update has a description of what issues it fixes. If you do not have that issue , do not update. Simple as that. Also, you should uncheck the "automatically check for driver updates" option in CCC so you aren't tempted. That being said, there is a fix for that issue. You can adjust the TDR.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946
