In some hl2.exe source based games (Counter-strike source and team fortress 2) crossfire doesnt work. I contacted valve and they informed me they are crossfire enabled games and i should contact AMD support so here i am. I get crossfire support in the new counter-strike GO which is source based. i have portal 1/2 but ive not got them installed so i cant tell you if i have crossfire in those.

It wouldnt be a problem but with only 1 graphics card working at 100% gpu load it gets hot, 100+ degrees which means more fan speed which means more noise. Now 2 gpus running at 60% load would be quieter so why isnt it working? any ideas?

Rig -

gfx - MSI R6970-2OM2D2GD5 x2

mobo - Asus crosshair V formula

CPU - AMD Phenom II x6 1100T

Memory - 8GB gskill rapjaws x

PSU - 1000w ocz

Crossfire works in all my other games modern warfare 3, battlefield 3, track mania 2 etc just not tf2.

If your cards are hitting 100C. You need to return it for an RMA. Unless your talking 100 Degree's F.

Or do some standard maintence like canned air and blowing them out. And applying new thermal paste and reseating the Heatsink.

2 graphics cards in Crossfire at 60% vs one card at 100%...Yea, I'd rather take the 1 card at 100%. Lower power consumption, lower heat, no multiple GPU drawbacks such as microstuttering. TF2 recommended system requirements say just an X1600, which is to the 6970 what the P-31 is to the SR-71, or a BB gun to a 110mm Howitzer cannon. If you are talking 100°C (because 100°F is only 38°C which is an impossible load temp for that card without something like a chilled H20 cooler) you do have a much more serious problem to tend to.
