Update Firefox to Current version ? In Firefox options, choose software rendering...not gpu.

Just to add something, you aren't losing out on anything if you have a fairly modern computer (3ghz CPU). The only difference you -might- see it in is in older Flash files as well as HD and 4K video, so you aren't missing out on anything.

I'm not a big drop in performance.
There is no true difference.

Thank you.

But still the Firefox GPU acceleration is broken right now. Will there be a hotfix or do we have to wait for 12.9?

Also, Firefox constantly switches frequencies (and fan speed for that matter) from 2D to 3D. A lot of people have been having this problem for quite some time now. Will it be addressed, or is it a Firefox bug?

It's probably classed as a very minor bug so next driver set or set after that depending on how testing goes etc, really is an impossible question to answer. You'd really have to talk to a driver team guy to know anything about driver releases and fixes - but even then, NDAs do come into things.

why not simply go back to 12.6 or 12.7?

the problem is only present in 12.8 drivers

why do you want to stay on a release known to have some defects?

in other words, what you need on 12.8 that you couldn't do on previous versions?

With this "Rapid Release Cycle" crap Mozilla implemented the issue might be Firefox related and will be fixed by a new release themselves.

the thing that most people didn't notice is

the actual problem was trigered by Adobe Flash

if you upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Flash it goes away

However, some bug on 12.8 made this issue with 2D HA come to light, as previous versions didn't have problem with either Firefox or Flash

Quote from Benchmark 3D ... ""

If you’re not aware of the Flash problem that’s been going on for quite some time: If you’re having issues with Flash, especially in Firefox, as in the browser freezes when watching videos (ie Youtube) you might be blaming the drivers but that’s not the case. Flash is buggy at best and with hardware acceleration enabled or without it you’re still going to have issues. To fix this you’ll need to disable Protected Mode

Edit mm.cfg and add/edit this line: ProtectedMode = 0
Windows 32bit: C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
Windows 64bit: C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash
