When I play minecraft my fps is absolutly terrible. I get anywhere from 5-15 fps, other times i get around 30 but 30 is rare. Its very rare that I get any better than 20fps.

My java is the most up to date available, jre7 release 9 both 64 and 32 bit versions. It doesnt seem to matter much, what video settings I choose in minecraft. Aside from render distance, if i turn this to tiny my fps goes up to about 35 fps.

Im running windows 7 home premium 64bit (service pack 1), 16GB of ram, and Intel i5 CPU (750 @ 2.67GHz 2.66Ghz), the video card is ATI Radeon HD 5570. I have dual monitors both on this same video card, one is dvi, one is vga. My main monitor is set at 1920x1080, my other one is set at 1280x1024. I'm not overclocking.

Im forcing my minecraft client to use 1gb or ram opposed to 512mb (which is the default) with a .bat file on my desktop. I have tried to force it to use 4gb of ram, with no different results.

Also, I own the minecraft server. It's hosted on another machine on my home network, I am using my internal network IP to connect to the server. I have a brand newWNDR3700v3 N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router. I am connecting to the server on a wired connection.

If memory serves correcly, my fps has gotten worse over the past year. I believe it use to be a lot better.

I feel I should be getting A LOT better fps with my current setup. Is there anything I can change to make this better for me? Should I not be getting at least 50-100 fps here?

Ensure that your Java is full up to date?
