Hi all,

I really need help with this matter.

Basically, I have been playing Battlefield 3 at a competitive level for about 1 year. I used to play on my computer at home, but then I had to move to another country for studying and I decided to get a gaming laptop. I have a HD7970m on it. My problem is, I always played this game with a resolution of 800x600, and in game the aspect ratio was set at 4:3. I was able to switch to 4:3 by clicking on the button of the monitor. Now, that I am on a laptop, I do not have buttons that can help me. I can set an in game resolution of 800x600, but it looks strechted because, of course, is at 16:9. There is no option in game to change the ratio to 4:3, but I can only change the resolution. I tried everything from CCC but with no result. I tried to change the resolution to a no native one (800x600) and the set on properties in CCC preserver aspect ratio, but as soon as I go in game it goes to 16:9, while when I am not gaming it is at 4:3.

Any idea on how to fix this problem? I really need to find a solution ASAP because I am playing for my national team and we got through the group stage and I really cannot play at any other resolutions :/

Why not play at 1920x1080 and then adjust the FOV to feel comfortable?

Shh! You can't tell a "competitive gamer" to play at our resolutions, they have to get every frame possible else they will get pwned! *obnoxious sarcasm*

If the GPU Scaling option does not work, then you're SOL.

Play in a window instead of full screen... unless that also breaks some kind of holy scripture.  In that case, don't do that.

Apparently there is nothing I can do about that. I tried to make a profile only for Bf3 but it does not work.. I solved it by simply getting a crt 19'' and I am gonna play on that like I do at home..

Anyway, we do not really play at 800x600 because we want every possible frame, is more that the game feels much better on that resolution

Hey Mime, add this to the list of things I do not get "People in 2013 who think a game from the 21st century looks better when played at a resolution from the 20th century" as well as "People who choose to use a CRT instead of an LCD in 2013"

Mmm CRT monitors, recycling them used to be a hobby of mine a few years ago, toolkit included safety goggles and a hammer.

I can imagine... I shot one from a distance of about 10 feet with a 75lb compound bow a few years ago.

It bounced off and only spider-webbed the screen.  I had to dodge to avoid getting hit with.... stuff.  The glass in those things was crazy-strong.  Then I thought to myself, "hmm... probably should have stood a bit farther away."

I've still got mine in the spare bedroom under some quilts, it's this one from Orion. I used to get such migraines when I would use it for extended times because of the flicker. I remember when I got my first LCD monitor, a Samsung something or other 1600x1200...Then most of the computers up at my university had huge Viewsonic 21 inch CRTs...

I dropped one of those from a height of about 4 feet on to a concrete floor once.  It did more damage to the floor than the monitor.

Just imagine if they had made the cases out of steel rather than plastic
