I have tried the "ancient trick" of putting the atioglxx.dll from version 9.12 into the neverwinter nights game directory and it does not work. Game still crashes on startup.

any help?

in NWN folder

rename nwmain.exe to somethingelse.exe

and use it to run the game.

If characters are invisible, in game's video options

uncheck "show environmental effects on characters".

Also in nwn.ini change

SafeMovie=0 to

SafeMovie=1

You don't run it via nwn.exe, do you?

I'm having an issue with this game, also. I can get the game to run, but it is choppy. I did the atioglxx.dl_ to .dll rename trick to get the game to run, with the atioglxx.dll in my NWN folder. I don't even have to run XP compatibility mode. I did disable the intro movies through the nwn.ini with the line  "Disable Intro Movies=1" under Disply options. Shiney water is also disabled.

I used the 10/13/13 5,156 kb flavor of the atioglxx.dl_ from one of the 12.x versions of catalyst (I can't remember which version, I've tried several).

The odd thing is that if I run the game on the motherboard N-Force hardware, it runs so very smooth, but can't handle too much particle/texture effects (too much for the on board hardware I'm guessing). THis is with the game advanced options maxed out (no shiney water, though).

None of the NVidia users on the playerworld that I play on have an issue at all. They don't have to rename or move files at all. This directs the issue at AMD/ATI drivers.

On previous ATI cards I used to turn down the graphic acceleration to get the game to run smooth, I know it sounds counter intuitive, but it worked. The driver version I have now with the card I have now doesn't allow for that (catalyst 13.4 with a HD 6750 card).

I also have tried several values in the CPUAffinity of the .ini files in NWN, but all the values I've tried (-2 to 4) haven't cured anything.

If I make any progress, I'll be sure to post it.

 Something I should note.

If I uninstall the catalyst package then NWN runs awesome!

BUT, nothing else runs, with an error for the ntdll.dll file. I reinstall the 13.4 cc and everything works great except NWN, which returns to choppy graphics.

My os is Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP2.

Graphics Card
XFX Radeon HD 6750, model number:HD-675X-ZD, part number: HD-675X-ZDFR (1 GB DDR3, DP HMDI, DVI, PCI-E)

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
Current: 13.4

Tested the available 12.1 on up.

Operating System
Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP2

Issue Details
game will not run unless the atioglxx.dl_ file ( 10/13/13 5,156 version) is installed into the NWN folder. THen it runs, but choppy graphics.
Motherboard or System Make & Model
Intel DG41ty (B) micro atx

Power Supply

500w cooler master (rs-500pcar a3)

Display Device(s) and Connection(s) Used
LG Flatron 23" LED

Applications and Games
Neverwinter Nights v1.69

CPU Details
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E 2180 @ 2.00GHz  2.00 GHz

System Memory Type & Amount

2.00 DDR2

Additional Hardware
SSD 240 GB Kingston HyperX WIndows, several games on root drive with 107 GB free.  (SATA)

Additional drives: Western Digital Raptor (WD740) 74.3 GB 56GB free, I do have a third drive that is 500 GB partitioned in two, but there is hardly anything on it, a few games maybe. (SATA)

No RAID set ups.

Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS

I have a DSL line through my Realtek with a home network set up. No bandwidth issues in any games on any of the computers.

DVD ROM drive (generic, IDE, model number GDR-8163B)

Small intake fan in the front of the cace, large exhuast fan for the back of the case. Small micro ATX case, I can't remember the model number.

Other notes:

Skyrim runs great (beautiful game, too)

Xcom: Enemy unknown runs great

UT and UT 2004 run great.

DOOM3:BFG runs great.

Age of WOonder, Age of Wonders2, Shadow Magic all run great.

Icewindale runs great and both expansions, but Icewindale2 can only run in a window. Full screen is has a satin graphic appearance that makes it unplayable.

No issues with the Zune sofware, or Office 2010 ( I use a lot of Excel and Word for both work and some college courses)

I'd post my wife and son's computers that also have the same issues with the new driver relaesess, but this would end up to be a long post.

Thank you in advance for any constructive problem solving.

Okay. I did get a GTX 650 (NVidia) for my main computer, which solved my issues. It's not top notch, but it was pretty cheap. The kid at Best Buy knew exactly what I was talking about...and they are rarely full of information. Apparently this is well known. Ouch.

Still, since I have 3 ATI cards now in the closet and 2 other PCs that are running ATI cards, I would still like a solution, if there is time and it's not too much trouble to help a customer.

Or I can slowly continue to migrate to other brands. I'm sure there are others in like situations. I'll check back on occasion.

Thank you.

7790 & 13.5b2 & Win7-32 here.

but Icewindale2 can only run in a window. Full screen is has a satin graphic appearance that makes it unplayable.

Just installed retail original version (1.0) to check. Runs properly. Not that 1024x768x32 looks great on 32" monitor . Anyway properly. Well known inventory crash happened. Was cured by known remedy - software BLT.

Great game, required some effort to quit So I don't know what a "satin appearence" you are talking about.

And your problem with NWN is quite strange. Here it runs OK with above mentioned gimmicks. Only regression (to older drivers) - I cannot enable "shiny water" at all.

Can you try 11.3 driver (one of latest less problematic)? You maybe need to tweak inf file.

Version 1.69.8109, Catalyst 13.8, still plays perfectly at 1920x1200 sans "shiny water" which never worked properly with AMD cards.
