It's not so much a design flaw as an intentional design implementation so that it maintains a nVidia card requirement. The Tech Report did a good article
a few years ago. But with the PS4 and XBone having an AMD chip in it, PhysX should really start falling out of favor even moreso than it is now in favor of cross platform solutions (OpenCL, DirectCompute, etc).
