Your 5770 will not improve in this game with any type driver update...as has been covered in all the posts you have made.

you are right ... but at least AMD should make a driver for this game ... only then we will pretty sure that we must upgrade our GPUs ... and with my 5770 ( the best 1 GB VRAM in 5xxx series ) i never get 60 FPS with 800x600 and everything else set to lowest !!! i instead gets only 45 in cites and 35 on islands which is UBISOFT/AMD fault or maybe both ... and btw :

http://www.hwcompare.com/11951/radeon-hd-5770-vs-radeon-hd-7770/

and do not tell me that i must have 2 GB VRAM GPU to have 60 FPS on lowest settings please

How about you go to Ubisoft and complain to them?

+1 - Send a blast to Ubisoft or any other game developer that distributes a buggy game. I don't understand why people expect AMD or Nvidia to fix problems in games with driver updates. The developers should be able to code within the framework of the drivers.

That sounds like part of what AMD is hoping to fix with Mantle. A more flexible API means more control put in the hands of game developers, and less per-application tweaking done in the driver.  Of course that means making game development even more complicated than it already is, so it's not a magic bullet, but it's a big step in the right direction.

I doubt any of that has to do with reactions like this though. Once driver updates for specific applications became common, it's like some people assumed anything wrong with a game(if there even is anything wrong with it) could be fixed in the driver.  It's a bit more complicated than that...

Mantel should be a good thing for PC gamers, but it's still early days, so don't hold your breath.

It could well go the way of Nividia 3D vision Dodo which is failing due to being Nvidia exclusive, and a not for console thing. And speaking of consoles. While Mantel is supposed to help bridge the gap between console/PC ports the money for nothing marketing sorts of the gaming industry may well do all they can to keep PC gaming from regaining/maintaining it's rightful place as the premier gaming machine, and squash Mantel, or anything else that makes it relatively  easy to do a port to PC that will shite all over the console versions of games.

Now - to answer your question. At this point Mantel will work on 7000 series and newer gpu's.

Don't forget that nVidia has their hand in many developer's pockets with their TWIMTBP program, which slows down adoption of even cross platform technology, such as DirectCompute.

Yeah! It's a bloody ruthless industry all 'round, eh!

Almost enough to give credance to people who say video gaming creates sociopaths

There's no reason why it couldn't eventually, but for now its GCN only.  We'll just have to wait and see how widely it gets adopted.

As far as Mantle's possible role in porting games from consoles... it would help, but there are APIs in common between consoles and the PC already.  Having more hardware in common will probably help more than having a common API.
