I'm sure none of you read the release notes,Note this since no one posted there system specs:

Starting with AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta, AMD will no longer support Windows 8.0 (and the WDDM 1.2 driver)

  • Users should upgrade (for Free) to Windows 8.1 to take advantage of the new features found in the AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta
  • AMD Catalyst 14.4 will remain available for users who wish to remain on Windows 8
    • A future AMD Catalyst release will allow for the WDDM 1.1 (Windows 7 driver) to be installed under Windows 8.0 for those users unable to upgrade to Windows 8.1

And i am sure you were lazy enough to read my post and my profile system specs: i use windows 8.1 64bit and catalyst 14.6 beta1

Now, to our topic (not exactly but i don't think a seperate thread is needed - correctly if i am wrong). I actually managed to play the game on a dual-gpu hd6990 by doing the following:

    1. Go to device manager and disable 2nd (slave) display adapter.

    2. Load the game, change settings to ultra-1080p-fullscreen-high textures (2gb vram). Also, ignore amd driver messages at this point.

3 Start a new game. The game crashes just before finishing loading.

    4. Go to device manager and enable 2nd (slave) display adapter.

    5. Load the game and start a new game. You should be able to play with crossfirex enabled without crashing (tested playing for 15 min on ultra).

For me, crossfirex performance is weak even on medium settings with catalyst 14.6 beta1 drivers. Either my dual-gpu card is getting old, or the game needs a patch and/or better drivers. Or there is something wrong in my end (i really don't think so).

Read that. At 1920x1080, ultra settings, the 780ti manages FOUR FPS more than the 290x. At higher resolutions, the 290x performs BETTER than the 780ti. If that doesn't stream "WE ***** UP!" from Ubisoft, an AMD card performing better than an nVidia card in a heavily nVidia sponsored game...

@Earnhardt : my apologies then, mate.

Though, you are right. We often forget to remind ourselves that our system may be similar but, at the same time, quite different to other people's pc configurations and therefore we ought to give every feedback we can and not be too hasty to blame the guys behind amd catalyst drivers.

Here we have another ubisoft situation and frankly this is quite unproffesional from them and tends to become a norm for most game publishers (EA anyone ?).

Enough from my ranting. Enjoy pc gaming and always support the developers that deserve it.

    Relax...game will get better.

Biggest fps assistance especially with driving in the game is to turn TEXTURE setting to a lower value.

    Other obvious solutions:

    Overclock cpu and graphic cards.

Turn down other settings like WATER, etc.

If it crashes at startup delete your gamerprofile.xml file found in Documents\My Games\Watch_Dogs\

I came to the conclusion that the "shader" option in graphics options is responsible for the massive stuttering and fps drops in-game, AND for the crash on desktop right after the ubisoft logo and save notification screen at game start-up. At least as far as dual graphics is concerned (like my HD 6990).

    Particularly (with Textures=high, 1080p fullscreen 16:9 - crossfirex enabled, 3 frames buffer, fxaa, vsync=1 frame, AO=MHBAO, level of detail=low, shadows=ultra, reflections=ultra, motion blur=off, depth of field=off, water=high):

    1. shader option set to high or medium gives stuttering and fps drops in-game, but no crash on start-up or in-game (tested for 30 min).

    2. shader option set to low greatly reduces or eliminates stuttering and improves framerate, but crashes on start-up and in-game (crashed for me after playing smoothly for 5-10 min).

If it crashes on start-up see my post above or take a look at this link from ubisoft forums:

    http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/882948-Unable-to-play-with-AMD-HD6990s-mega-thread?p=9997284&viewfull=1#post9997284

Hope this feedback can help others.

I would like to share a very interesting article that explains in detail all the graphical options of watch_dogs along with comparison screens. The article originates from the unspeakable site, but here it goes ...

Before reporting it, i was hesitant  because, honestly, i thought it was for some kind of marketing/advertising reasons, though it did strike quite odd.

Check out this "real" ultra pc settings mod thread:

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=389848

Looks more like a sweet fx tweak in my opinion, but it looks good.

Also, check this guy's settings cfg tool (still in alpha-use at own risk):
