Hello!

I really love BO1, but i was never able to play it with good FPS.
Recently, i was able to get a better PC but unfortunately nothing changed.
Well, actually a lot changed since i can play BF3 and BF4 Without any Problems. And also other Games work great aswell. Only BO1 seems to have something against my AMD card.

My Friend (who has AMD cards since some years) told me that he isnt able to play BO1 either, but he was before. I asked him which Driver version he can remember worked for him.

He said 12.8. So i uninstalled v14 and installed 12.8. Restarted my PC Started BO, and there magically the Worst FPS i got was 80. Most of the time my fps were somewhere around 130-200.

I restarted my PC again and then... I wasnt able to start steam. Everytime i entered my account information it said "Logging in" and then killed itself.

And my Catalyst Control center always responded with "Has stopped working"

My friend tried the same with 12.8 and for him the same happened. (Im not 100% sure but he have a HD6870)

Uninstalled 12.8 and installed 13.2 (i was hoping that not too much has changed in that version.). Restarted my PC and... Windows doesnt boot anymore.
To uninstall the Driver i had to Say windows to boot without the AMD driver.
Then i installed the newest one again. (i believe 14.2?)

Today i tried a Beta driver (14.6 RC) but its not running good either.

50 Fps on places where i am supposed to have 200.

So, what could cause this? Did AMD just stopped supporting BO1 and took out all code they have implemented to the driver?
Also while searching on google i found a Steam thread where they said that any patch after 12.8 are bad for BO1

Just to make clear that i can run other games well...

I had the same problem on an older Win 7 64 system with a 1GB 5570. Black Ops always ran reasonably well on that card. Somewhere along the way, there was a driver update that changed everything. I think I was running a 12.x version with no problems and they started with a 13.x update. The game lagged something awful and, when I was doing the Helicopter kill streak, it was totally unplayable as the frame rate was incredibly low. I eventually gave up playing the game because of this.

Fast forward a few months, and I bought a new computer with a Radeon 4GB R9 290 card running Windows 8.1 64 bit. I tried Black Ops again and the frame rates are reasonable, but only around 40-50FPS with V-sync on. At least the Helicopter kill streak works OK, but it's still choppy compared to how it was way back in the 12.x driver days. My experience with COD Ghosts is completely the opposite, though. With the old 5570 using lowest possible settings, the graphics weren't good and performance was so so. With the new computer, I get 60FPS with V-sync on with all settings max'ed out. The graphics are absolutely amazing compared to the old system. Just for laughs, I tried it with V-sync off and got over 90FPS and there was no tearing for some reason. That made the card run too hot, though, at 95C, so I turned V-sync back on. The card runs at 85C with V-sync on. I'm currently on CCC version 14.6.

I really want to know, what they changed after 12.8 that BO does run so poorly.
