Hi, I just got a new Radeon R9 270x GPU today after my old one GPU stopped working and even after installing it properly and getting the proper drivers I'm having FPS issues when playing Starcraft 2.

I checked the core clock speed and GPU usage while playing SC2 and other games like BF3 and Chivalry and in SC2 the core speed will dip down to 1020 or 450 often instead of staying at the max 1070, while in BF3 and Chivalry it will stay at 1070. The GPU usage also will stay around 20% or so with some spikes if a lot of stuff is happening on screen in SC2 and will be pretty much maxed when playing other games.

I'm not even using high graphics with SC2, just a hyrbid low/medium graphics. The FPS will be fine in the beginning but it will get worse over time going down to 30-40 FPS when it should be 60+.

Some specs:

Windows 7

i5 3570k

8gig corsair RAM

550W Power supply

If anyone has any way to help I'd appreciate everything ;__; My older HD Radeon 6870 used to be able to play perfectly while streaming in 720p 60FPS too so I don't know why this isn't working...

That's diagnostic of a CPU bottleneck.

Personally don't think it is. I used to play SC2 with E4600 and 9800GT, at medium settings I could get about 45-50 fps. I even could set some settings to high

Higher detail settings can quickly raise the draw call count, swamping even fast processors.

In SC2 in particular, one setting I found to have a big impact on performance was Indirect Shadows, though it's been a while since I checked.
