Well i bought the fx-6100 for 140 last week blindly because i trust amd. Well i read later its not a real 6 core like the older models. Also alot of reveiws say it performs worse than amd quads in gaming and are killed by the older x6 models. So did i make a mistake and should i return this cpu since i havent opened it yet and get the 8 core one that has better reviews and performance benchmarks?

Yeah im sending this cpu back im hearing way too many bad reviews. I just picked up 8 core black edtion at 3.6gig fake cores or not its the top amd cpu other than a opteron.

Well that's the second stupid move you've pulled in as many weeks. If you would have read you would see that inherent design issues, which will be fixed with Piledriver, as well as Microsoft dragging their feet on the Windows 7 updates which make it perform as good as it does on the Windows 8 betas, both contribute to Bulldozer performing UNDER a Phenom II in the majority of cases. You would have come out much better by getting a Phenon II 965 or above and overclocking it

If reviews were to say that the new BMW M3 or Mercedes-benz ML were crapier than the older ones just because they have 20Km/h less top speed or because they have something new(I know too vague I can't find somthing to compare it ), would you believe them? Unless you try them your self first?

I own 1 FX4100 and FX8150, both are great. I have at least 10%/25% increace performance compared to the PhenomII X6 1100T.

The new FX aren't build around Windows 7 architecture just like the Intel's and AMD's older series. MS is trying yo fix the problems with Windows 7, and ofcource -rumors- FX will perfome much better with Windows 8.

PS: If you have an AM3 MB and updated the BIOS to use the AM3+  FX CPU then that might be your problem if you have poor performace.

When it comes to gaming, anything up to the hd6950 (and possibly higher) will perform just fine even with the FX-4100 at stock speed. If you have the FX-81xx it'll probably do a little better in gaming and a lot better in everything else. If you feel it's not enough and you know how to overclock I suggest you go for 4ghz+ (provided you have good cooling).

I tried both Windows 7 SP1 64 bit (with both FX hotfixes)
and Windows 8 CP 64 bit on my FX-4100 system, and all
the benchmarks I tested showed slightly lower CPU performance in Windows 8 than in 7.
So much for Windows 8 being optimized for the FX series CPUs.
Oh well, it is still a beta. Maybe it will improve by the time of the final.

Depends on the games you play. RTS games often are a lot more demanding on the CPU and there are even older games like Company of Heroes a bulldozer will probably have troubles with in 4vs4 matches when lots of stuff is on the screen.

awi5951 your CPU is fine ,who gives a f.. if the Bulldozer core doesnt do well in SuperPi and such tests that have no relation to the actual aplications people use.

Keep in mind that this CPU has instruction sets that Phenom 2 doesnt have ,instruction sets that will be used in the future software for faster computing.

Just for curiosity i have replaced my P2 X3 720BE with a FX 4100 thinking that all that have been said and told on various forums that bash Bulldozer will be reflected in real life handicaps while using the PC.

I could of chosen for the same price a P2 X4 965 on the other hand ,but thinking at the heat my 975BE releases i have calmed down .

In my usage scenrio i have discovered that the PC behaves excellent  , performs better in games and the desktop feels more responsive.

It heats less  and sucks from the power supply half of what the Phenom 2 720BE  did in full load ,idleing at around 20 Watts.

I have replaced a CPU that needed 70W (the 720BE) with a CPU that needs half of this power to deliver more performance in games ,for less heat and less need of a good airflow in the case ,at a similar price.

If AMD drops the price even more Bulldozer is perfect for any casual PC user.

Some motherboards seem to be bugged though even now.

COH works just fine in LAN at 1080 resolution with 4 on my FX 4100 ,playing against my brother whos hosting the server on the P2 X4 975 BE rig.

 

Don t belive the negative hype people.Buy the CPU and see for yourseves.Make sure no throttling occures on the moterboards you are using.
