I can only speak for myself but, Driver Sweeper is totally safe to use if the following is true:
1> Do not use the link that some people post to Guru 3D. That is a WAY OUTDATED application. Use the link I posted to phyxion.net...the developer...and the latest version 3.2.0.
2>The past problem with Driver Sweeper had to do with Windows 7 SP1 installation. That was fixed/corrected over a year ago. The notice of that fix has been posted numerous times....why some people can't move on, I don't understand. The problem was adressed in version 2.8.5...as seen here http://phyxion.net/category/driver-sweeper-3.html
3>If you are still concerned, know this...Driver Sweeper (not Driver Cleaner, Driver cleanup, or any other program out there) has a restore feature to put back all it deleted.
I and many others use this program everytime I install new drivers....and have absolutely no problems.
