I have an Asus m4a89gtd pro/usb3 motherboard with bio version 3030.  I am using the on board video, 8g mem.

I had a phenon x4 965 black.  One of the cores stopped working and would cause bsod.  I purchased an fx 8150 as the mb states with the newest bios it was supported.  It still shows x2 at start up, very, very , very slow.  Half the time it won't boot, and when the computer hibernates, most of he time I have to manually reboot it.  Get bsod sometimes on boot up.

I have updated all drivers, etc.  Do I have a mb problem or cpu problem.  I still have the other phenon, and it will boot up and work faster, but sometimes as x3 and sometimes as x4 with possible bsod at some point.

Asus's diagnostics program crashes.

Well, despite some manufacturers claims that a FX will work on some 8XX chipset with just a Bios update, I wouldn't botter trying.. isgust;

My advice: get a 9XX chipset motherboard for that FX, or get another PII X4/X6 for that mobo..

I had read all kind of scenarios with a 8XX chipset+FX.. Some works just great, some are a pain in the arss..

But, as you describe your problem, it must be a compatibility issue due to the Bios.. Neither is faulty, just don't match as it should..

What to do??.. Get a new CPU/mobo to match each, or talk to the Asus people and see what they have to say about it..
