I have recently reformatted my computer , everything is running fine except from the CPU which is only running at 2.9ghz , i increased the Multiplier on BIOS to x21 which put it back up to 4.2ghz but? i feel this is incorrect , i bought my PC from overclockers as well about a year ago. Please can you help. From increasing my CPU hertz on the multiplier it has restarted a few times which insinuates to me i have done something wrong.
Please help guys i have:
motherboard: GIGABYTE - 78LMT-S2P
Processor: AMD FX Quad core 4.2ghz
Graphics card: Radeon HD series 6900 2gb
Ram: Kingston 8gb ram 1333mhz
Harddrive: 500gb
OS: Windows 7 64bit

Which FX Quad-Core did you buy?! FX-4100? FX-4300? FX-4170? FX-4130?
The CPU may be throttling because it overheating or something. Have you had a look at your idle and load temperatures? Use HWMonitor and take some readings. Use CPU-Z to make sure the chip is running at your indicated speeds.

What Power Supply do you have installed in that system? Please provide the brand & model (i.e. Corsair TX650 650W).
Also, since you reformatted your computer, have you installed the motherboard chipset drivers, Ethernet drivers, USB drivers, etc?

According to Gigabytes cpu support list your motherboard dose not support the 125W FX-4170 or any cpu over 95W.

Yeap.
Maybe something with the 970 chipset or if your planning on running more than one gpu 990FX chipset would be even better

If the BIOS is F5A then the motherboard should be fine.
I'd suggest contacting overclockers (assuming its the .co.uk one) and ask them, they're normally very helpful.

Well that's very odd... What revision is your board because both Slayer and RedGreen are correct.

Indeed if it is Rev 5.x then your CPU is NOT supported.

The125W FX-4170 is listed as supported with BIOS F5a, so if the board comes with that bios, great, if not, be prepared to flash it.
