Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard for AM3+ FX-8120 CPU.

On powerup, no POST screens, no display at all.

Was told the mobo needed a BIOS flash to support the CPU, so installed an old AMD Sempron chip (to get to POST screen) and performed the flash - Rev F11, which I got from Gigabyte site.

Reinstalled the FX-8120, but on pwerup, still no POST, no display.

(As an aside, the Sempron let's me boot and run Win7 64bit - but, clearly, this is not the desired result!)

So, is this an indication I have a bad CPU?  If so, I purchased this stuff on 9/26/12 - is there warranty for the FX-8120 so I can get it replaced?  Or is there some other testing/troubleshooting I need to do?

Thanks.

Hi if you bought the boxed version of the cpu you get 3 years warranty. If you bought the oem version ie no box you get 30 days.

Were you running it on another board for the past 4 months?

I sure wish I'd been running it for the past 4 months...  this build has been a prime example of murphy's law - technically and via hardware vendor support chains...  The CPU has basically been sitting in it's box.
