I am using the stock fan with my FX_8150.  On a fairly regular basis I'm seeing temps of 65c without overclocking or heavy application use.

The problem is the CPU & Fan sit nearly directly below my PSU which gives off heat. Only 1/2 of the CPU fan is exposed to "clean" air - the rest is cover by the PSU.

I want to upgrade the fan however can not identify an upgrade that will fit the bill.
There is currently only 1" to 1 1/2 inch clearance from the current fan.

Any Ideas?

If you're going to replace the fan, I'd be tempted to replace the stock heatsink altogether.  More airflow almost always helps, but finding the sweet spot inbetween the puny and the whacking huge could help to reduce temperatures a lot more than just replacing the fan alone.  It just depends by how much you want to cool it down, how much room you have to work in, and how much you want to spend.

Closed loop system. Corsair makes some good ones, I personally have an Antec Kuhler 920, no mess, no worries, no maintenance. very cool running.

Might be an idea for a larger chassis with more room for air flow and better cable management.

This is on quiet settings with the fans barely working...

The CPU socket temp is the TMPIN2

I love the LED on it...  you can set it to vary color based on the CPU temp...  it's quite a cool little feature
