I am attempting to upgrade my PC and the last few things i need to replace is Memory(RAM) and my CPU.

I already know what im repalcing my ram with, but i need help with my CPU.

**I would like to note, the only thing that is considered HP on my computer is the OS software and the motherboard, it has a new case and new hardware

So i have a " Foxconn H-ALVORIX_HF-RS880-uATX" motherboard, pretty much stock in an HP pavilion. It uses the regular AM3 Socket, but it seems every CPU with that socket type is discontinued. I was wondering if the AM3+ socket type is compatible with my Motherboard?

***edit: No bcc?

in an HP pavilion

Prefab computers use custom boards and custom BIOSs, I doubt you could even put in any other processor than what is in it now.

i guess thats true. Reason why i dont want to buy a motherboard is because i dont want to buy windows and i dont even like windows 8, i hear that its very unstable and can't run certain games. and DONT pass the idea of torrenting it. >.> last thing i need is a cease and desist order.

however, if i were to get another motherboard, what would you prefer? i dont have a set budget for motherboards, so just pass out your preferences and favorites.

also, my setup includes an ATI Radeon 6770 HD sapphire, 2X4GB corsair Memory, SATA Hybrid HDD SDD around 1TB, and most likely AMD FX CPU.

This is a little bit confusing, how is a new motherboard in any way related to what OS you have?

Anything from ASUS, in my experience Gigabyte isn't bad either. Look for one with 990X chipset so that you can get the max out from your gpu.

I think he means zipsi that since is is a HP that is an OEM issued non transferable copy of Windows 7.

i dont even like windows 8, i hear that its very unstable and can't run certain games

It's just Windows 7 with a new haircut. And I'm sure there are SOME games which will take a bit of tweaking to get to run on 8 without issue, but the major games should work fine.

They're good boards, but unless you are going to be playing very graphically demanding games you might want to look at getting an A10-5800K based setup.

Tons of games have issues with Windows 8, depending on how good your IT skills are......

I am sticking with 7 for now, got 8 in a VM to test things with

Are you sure about this? I've taken out HDD's that were in HP pre-builts and used them in other rigs just fine before. This is the first I've heard of this.

hard disks are very generic today, i have lots of them that have accumulated from upgrades to machines over time

old notebook disks are now being stuffed into usb3 cases which do not have power problems

so any new board you get, look for UEFI BIOS and USB3
