Hi everyone !

I'm trying to cunduct some experiments  about GPU virtualization/passthrough. And, of cause, experiencing problems

What I've found, is that there's a lot of technologies used for virtualization, and at least there's  AMD-V, RVI and AMD-Vi

AMD-V and RVI is widely supported and there's a plenty of resources telling which CPU and which chipset supports  them, so that's not the case

AMD-Vi is much less enlighted. I've asked here in chipsets thread and got answer about AMD-Vi support in chipsets - it's 890Fx, 9x0 and later. So here's my question - does AMD-Vi needs support in CPU at all ? And if it does - where's the list of CPU (or, at least, cores) which has that support ? There's nothing on AMD about that, and too different answers on other forums (from "any APU and some Opteron" to "any reasonable AM2 CPU", nether any specific )

I told you on your other thread which CPU's support AMD-V: APU's (which are Socket FMx), FX series (Which are AM3+), and Opteron (which are servers). Your Socket AM2 processor does not support IOMMU.

Thanks for your answer, but as I stated above, I'd like to get more specific list.

I can understand what do you mean by "APU" - that's pretty fresh line, started from Llano, with microarchitecture K12.

Also, there's no doubt in "FX" - it must me Bulldozer core, K11-based

But. There's whole bunch of "Opteron" CPUs, which ones ? Would it be only Gen3 ? Then it's based on K10 microarchitecture , does that mean that K10 supports AMD-Vi ? Or maybe Gen2 supports that too ?

I really appreciate your answer, but when I'm telling "list" - I'd like to see some technical references at least, not marketing names. Core names, architechture versions, and so on. Or - the best way - OPNs list

My goal right now is to assemble test platform, and I must decide what hardware should be used. And, of course, I'd like to spent as little money as possible. But if it has to be Opterons - well, I have them too, just which ones ?

Opteron 3000, 4000, and 6000 series, with motherboards using a SR5650, SR5670, or SR5690 chipset. Once you decide which processor you want, look here and it will tell you what instructions it supports.

Hi everyone !

Since I've made huge progress with GPU virtualization, I'd like to make some conclusion for this thread.

First of all - IOMMU has nothing to do with CPU. There's NO CPU "with IOMMU support". 'Cause that's not CPU feature at all. So my whole question was all wrong. There's no "CPUs supporting AMD-Vi" at all

I've wrote some more details about this here http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=447&threadid=167172&enterthread=y
