Hi everyone, I'm new here.

I've tried searching the forum, and found some posts that suggest that Socket 939, AM2 and AM3 boards all support the same cooler clips, but what about the new FM2?

I'm upgrading from an 64X2 3800+ to a new motherboard and an A8 5600k processor, socket FM2.  My old PC has a very good third party cooler on it which is very quiet, and I'd like to know if it is likely to fit the new processor, or will I have to shell out for a new cooler as well.  The wattage is not too dissimilar, 89W for the 3800+ and 100W for the A8.  I won't be oerclocking it either.  I've read that the standard cooler on the A8 is very noisy.

Thanks for any help.

Go to the aftermarket cooler maker's website and check for mounting info. on the cooler that you have if it is still a current model. You may need an update kit to mount it on an FM2 socket mobo? There are so many variables that it's always best to check with the cooler maker via e-mail or their website.

As long as they are using the stock bracket, then it will fit. The only places I have seen motherboards not using it are on mini-ITX boards. Socket AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, and FM2 all use the same mounting system.

Excellent news!  Thanks black_zion.  I now have the choice of three coolers

I know which one I'll try first though.    The quiet one!

To clarify, I bought an A10 stock cooler from someone who had fitted a third party cooler, thinking I would buy a used A10.  I ended up with a new A8, so that came with it's own stock cooler.  Now, anyone needing a stock cooler for either of these?
