Hey,

I have a problem with my brand new FX-8320 processor. I bought a new AM3+ Mainboard (GiBy GA-970A-D3) and installed the new AMD processor. With the power on self test the mainboard beeps seven times which mean "cpu interrupt" I think. After that I purchased a new Mainboard (ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0) and a new FX-8320. Same problem as before!

Has anyone an idea what I can do?

Do you know if either of these mobos has the proper BIOS update to support the FX processors? If not that would be an obvious reason for them not recognizing the FX processor ID code and thus failing to boot.

Building a reliable PC involves more than just assembling the parts. You need to be able to configure all of the BIOS settings appropriately. This can be quite involved and frustrating as it can require a lot of trial and error with stress testing. It is however often the only means to get a 100% reliable PC.

Quit buying low end junk for one thing. From the Gigabyte manual:

Q:
What do the beeps emitted during the POST mean?
A:
The following Award BIOS beep code descriptions may help you identify possible computer problems.
(For reference only.)
1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error

Any other beep codes mean a memory error. One reason there's a sticky which asks you to post all your system information before posting is so things can be ruled out.

I found this peep description ...

AMI Beep Codes

Except for beep code #8, these codes are always fatal.

1 beep Refresh failure - try reseating the memory, if the error still occurs, replace the memory
2 beeps Parity error - try reseating the memory, if the error still occurs, replace the memory
3 beeps Base 64K memory failure - try reseating the memory, if the error still occurs, replace the memory
4 beeps Timer not operational, system board bad
5 beeps Processor error, system board bad
6 beeps 8042 - gate A20 failure, try reseating the keyboard controller chip
7 beeps Processor exception interrupt error, system board bad
8 beeps Display memory video card read/write failure error, replace video memory or video card
9 beeps ROM checksum error, faulty BIOS chip(s), must replace them
10 beeps CMOS shutdown register read/write error, system board bad
11 beeps Cache memory bad

I can't believe that this is a Memory problem.
