The fan on my new FX-4100 runs continuously even when the machine is idling.  Is this normal?  If so can I do anything to make the fan load/temp sensitive?

Mobo is Asus M5A78L-MUSB3.

The fan on the CPU should indeed run continuously, but not always at full-speed.

well have you ran a temp monitoring program to see if its running hot? Have you checked your motherboards bios to make sure the fan isn't set to run full tilt when doing nothing?

Thanks Marc.  Well spotted.  I should had said there is no discernible variation in speed.

Thanks Vantharas.  I'll follow up on those pointers.
