Anything under 55°C is fine on the stock cooler.

As usual the AMD website has no temp information on the FX-6300 - which is a disgrace IMO and a total lack of customer support.

http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=811&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=

The 8-core FX CPUs have a 61C max 24/7 core temp. This had to be dragged out of AMD Tech Support but it's correct according to AMD engineering.

The 4 and 6 core FX models may have a 24/7 core temp of up to 70C in certain models but you can't tell from the AMD website most of the time.

These max 24/7 core temps would be with 100% load on all cores such as with stress testing or some application like Prime 95 or similar that can actually load the cores to 100% continuously. Unless you have some very high ambient temps or a PC case with airflow issues, you should not expect to be at the max core temp unless stress testing.

Any temp below the max 24/7 specified but well hidden AMD max core temp for your CPU model, is just fine. The max 24/7 core temp should be at least 61C for a 6-core and probably higher because it's a 95w model.

-------------------------

Building a reliable PC involves more than just assembling the parts. You need to be able to configure all of the BIOS settings appropriately. This can be quite involved and frustrating as it can require a lot of trial and error with stress testing. It is however often the only means to get a 100% reliable PC.
