long ago i recall a machine that offered sockets for SRAM rather than DRAM, the machine was so much faster it was popular but very expensive

today ddr3 on my box is maybe 4 GB/s so says memtest86+

so given a SSD at 500 MB/s would need 8 to saturate main memory.

wonder how fast windows would boot?

lots of RAID cards now offer PCI Express 3.0 speeds which mean they are up to the task

how much benefit to the video card? loading would be faster too, to a point

Don't fall for the illusion - Windows does brake all devices conform to the  WEI index no matter what hardware can do ... windows does set the performance limit and that's it.

I' ve seen evidence in my own system when a new released hard drive scored a WEI of 7.0 - impossible for a HDD since 5.9 is the set limit. Once this HDD was registered under WEI it scored 5.9 and it was slow as that.

End of story
