Only one thing is sure, it's an AMD processor, intel doesn't have this layout, but which one.. remains a mystery until you plug it in Does seem to be a LGA-1207 "Socket F" which supports cpu's like Opteron 2xxx, 8xxx series, Athlon 64 FX, FX-7x series.

That's what I got too (35 rows x 35 columns - 18 non existant contacts = 1207). Where did you get it from?

I bought it off ebay and the listing is still live.

In the past day I have searched Ebay and Amazon and have looked at hundreds upon hundreds of Opteron cpu images and cannot find a one that has a 3 step metal design. Meaning if you look at the top of the cpu and count down to the brown circuit board there are 3 levels of metal or a cpu that has the bottom left hand corner that is square and not rounded.

I have been building my own computers for years and have always wanted to build a dual cpu system. I got two of these for 15.00 shipped so I figured I could not lose no matter what they turn out to be.

I am really hoping these are six core cpus.

I took a wild guess and figured these are six core cpus as they look like they are built to run hotter than alot of other Opteron cpus I have seen.

I have also noticed that most ALL OTHER Opteron cpus do not have 2 rounded cut-outs (in the metal) on both sides of the cpu. Many have only 1 cut-out on each side. I could not find ANY CPUS with 2 per side (in the metal) after surfing hundreds upon hundreds of listings on Ebay or Amazon so I figured these were on the more rare side of Opteron cpus and were well worth 7.98 each. I have however seen many cpus where they shown 2 cut-outs per side cut out of the circuit board itself.

UPDATE: The following link is THE ONLY Opteron cpu that even looks remotely close to the two I purchased.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Opteron-6-Core-4234-3-1GHz-8MB-C32-95W-Processor-OS4234WLU6KGU-/221435850687?pt=US_Server_CPUs_Processors&hash=item338e9aefbf

It is a six core, 3.1ghz cpu. I know Im most likley not that lucky lol.

I have noticed that the more "all metal" design appearance from the top of the cpu down to the board before the pins (on the bottom) of the cpu are usually a higher GHZ than the others with less metal thus possibly helping my theory that this cpu is build to run faster and hotter than others.

If I had to take a ballpark guess Id say the cpus I purchased are in the 2.6ghz to 3.0ghz range. WHAT do you all think???

THANKS again people for helping me figure this all out, Tammy.

The Socket F product family. You can't go by looks, as this could have been a custom lidless processor which had a lid attached by an OEM.
