I just installed this CPU with a Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 about an hour ago. Turned it on, installed the drivers from the motherboard disk, and now the computer shuts off randomly usually within a couple minutes of turning it on. After it shuts down it takes several minutes to turn back on.

CPU Temp in BIOS states fluctuation from 41* C to 51* C but coretemp in windows doesn't show it going higher than 38* C

Is there a chance it is the processor?

EDIT - I did reinstall Windows 7, because I figured it could be a conflict from having just had the AMD A8-5600k CPU installed. Still shuts down on me

AMD OverDrive shows temps fluctuating from 40* C to 54* C, and voltage alternating from 0.875volts to 1.1125volts

shutdown (not crash shutdown) usually occurs due to high CPU/GPU temperature issues and especially on this board make sure not to unlock cores in sys bios. If you got XMP ram use the ram profile and leave all else on auto.

This way it should work nicely

Shutting down unexpectedly soungs like the overheat protection kicking in.

What CPU Cooler are you using?

If you are using your exisint cooler, did you clean of the old thermal paste and apply a new amount?

Is the CPU cooler installed properly?

Run HWMonitor / AIDA64 and keep an eye on the temperatures (CPU, NB, SB, VRM, etc).

An instant shutoff to me sounds more like a power safety being tripped.

What revision is your board?  rev 1.0 boards has issues delivering the proper voltage to the CPU under load.  If the voltage drops below 1.18 the CPU will not work properly and cause BSOD, shut downs and other such things.  I have a UD7 rev 1.0 and I need to manually set my voltages very high so that voltage droop under load stays in a stable range.
