I got an AMD Sata Update through Windows Update.  That caused the hard drive light to blink every second.  I did a system restore before the update.  Issue goes away.

The only time I have heard of a hard drive light blinking like that, is caused by the dvdrw drive incompatable with the sata controller. The way to check is update the sata controller driver then go into device manager and disable the dvdrw drive see if the blinking stops.

I have a HP Pavilion p6792uk PC.  I remember the first time I updated the chipset drivers through the AMD website, it occured.  Now I updated it through Windows Update and it occured again.  I did a system restore and the problem is fixed.  So something is wrong with the update on this PC model.

Also, the default AMD SATA driver that came with the PC did not cause the problem.

Hi ok I am just telling you what causes the hd light to blink. This has happened to many people and the cause is the dvdrw drive. Nothing is wrong with the update it may enable new things on the contoller. This happens even with a intel chip set. I would think that the dvdrw drive is also a lg drive. But I guess if you dont want to do the update and disable the dvdrw drive in device manager we will never know.

If the DVD drive is the cause of the problem?  I know this happened in the past with a smiliar Sata Drive update.  I nuked the OS due to a problem with uninstalling the update: http://my.opera.com/wikipedian/blog/2012/04/08/fix-it-hard-drive-light-flashing-every-second
