hello guys

i'm happy to have returned to the AMD "platform" camp. been using thir gpus for ages though.

i purchased an asus sabertooth 990fx to go with my fx-8350. after i completed windows 7 x64 install, i noticed that the system devices in the device manager are left with the "generic" drivers that windows use (maimly pci bridges and hosts.

is that normal? i tried to install some drivers that came with the mainboard disk but it was just catalyst for my gpu and the smbus ones. do i need to install something else?

thanks in advance

Cheers !!!

thank you for the fast reply.

even if it seems that these might be what i'm looking for, sadly it's not

i'm looking for drivers for the pci bus, pci standard host cpu bridge, pci standard isa bridge, pci standard pci-to-pci bridge and ati i/o communications devices.

all these seem like the old windows 98 drivers. lol

anyway, i'll keep searching.

again, thanks a lot

Cheers !!!

Have you gone to Windows Update and manually installed the 'optional' or 'recommended' downloads?

Those "should" be generic Microsoft drivers, IMO. I just checked the drivers for those on my system, and they are using Micrsoft drivers from 2006.

All you should really need for the motherboard are the Chipset, LAN, USB 3.0, Audio, and SATA drviers. All the latest ones should be availalbe directly from ASUS's website.

If you have the original Sabertooth 990FX: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FX/HelpDesk_Download/

it all seems weird to me.

at first, i want to thank you all for helping me out.

the sad part is that even though i installed the "chipset" drivers, all it ever installed was ahci + sata drivers.

or example, when i click driver details on ATI I/O Communications Processor PCI Bus Controller, i see the pci.sys file that has been loaded. on ATI I/O Communications Processor SMBus Controller and the PCI standard host CPU bridge, i get the "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" message.

i'm starting to sound paranoid, right? well, i only like things to be settled and working as should.

anyway, thank you guys again for your replies and help. it's really appreciated.

(p.s. sorry for any bad english. it's not my native language )

Cheers !!!
