About 2 years ago I picked up this Lenovo y560, equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 graphics card. When it works, it's great. However, I have had so many issues with these drivers, ranging from an englarged pointer to blue screens. After a long time, I finally got the drivers where I needed them in order to work consistently, but today the drivers somehow became corrupt, and my computer crashed. Works fine in safe mode, but if the computer attempts to load the video drivers, I only get a black screen. I uninstalled the drivers, downloaded the newest ones I could find, and booted into regular windows to install them. Had to restart to load the drivers, and black screen yet again. Now for some reason it's saying the newest drivers are installed, and that they are from March 3 2010. If anyone out there has some advice for what drivers I could download and how to install them without getting this damn black screen, please post that info here. If not, this sucker's going straight through my window and onto Hillcrest, and I will laugh hysterically as it's run over by hundreds of vehicles over the next few hours until I'm bored. Sick of this thing.....

P.S.: it was working fine for the longest time with drivers for the "6730/5700 series" if that helps any, and now it just lists the drivers as 5730.

You should look in the laptop forum. There are many posts with "how to install new drivers".

Got the drivers I previously had installed, same issue. The problem wasn't installing drivers, it was getting the right ones, as my computer seems to think the right ones are from 2010 but that's no longer an issue. I'm still getting a blank screen every time I try to boot into regular windows. Other things I've tried:

Connecting to a second monitor

System restore

Different driver versions

In the event log viewer, I was previously getting errors relating to an ASPI32 service, which appears to be an adaptec scsi driver. After trying system restore, I'm getting this whenever I try to boot into regular Windows:

boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
ASPI32
discache
MpFilter
spldr
Wanarpv6

Along with a crapload of these:
The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

Looks like time for a OS reinstall

Have you tried the laptop manufacturer's site...you might want to see if there is a newer BIOS too.

No newer bios, and I'm currently backing up my data and having my parents flip my house upside down for where I wrote down my Windows key because the positioning of the Windows sticker on this junker is perfect for getting worn down, so the key is now unreadable. Just hoping the card isn't fried...note to everyone, don't buy Lenovo. This thing has been a headache from day one. Thank god one of the speakers died last year, the decreased volume has helped with the headaches.
