I today upgraded to windows 8 on my laptop, which I use in conjunction with a second monitor. Problem is, when I hook it up to my second monitor I get a huge underscanning issue. Like a 1-2 inch black border around before the display proper.

I know it's an ATi issue, but the problem is I can't install catalyst to be able to use a fixer that would solve my issue.

On win 7 I got around this by using steam to install catalyst through AMD's partnership driver thing, and that fixed the issue, but when I try to use the steam driver updates now, It says that it's up to date.

So my question is: How do I remove the drivers steam deals with so I can get around not being able to download Catalyst directly, and instead get Catalyst via Steam?

Any other solutions would be great as well.

*NOTE*: I know that Toshiba doesn't support driver updates through catalyst, but the last one was released in 2010 and doesn't solve my underscanning problem.

Well the best anyones going to do is guess with that wealth of information. I guess you have Win 8 64bit, HD Mobility 5XXX or above graphics, at least a dual core processor, and 4gb of RAM. If thats the case download the latest 12.0 drivers here >  http://benchmark3d.com/drivers-search and use the " how to install new drivers here > http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=444&threadid=162444&enterthread=y  and you should be good to go.

Better than doing it thru steam. Or you could just delete the drivers and start steam...I guess.

Pardon me, let me clarify; I have Windows 8 64 bit and I have 8Gb of RAM. With the ATi Mobility Radeon 5470. I have an Intel i5 @ 2.53 GHz.

Before I use your method, I thought my computer couldn't make use of AMD's generic drivers? I have a Toshiba Satellite. I would update through them, but the last drivers they released for AMD was 2 years ago. (Lazy buggers)

I've updated my laptop since day one with AMD downloads. ( I also removed a  ton of Asus control software.) Using the site I gave you, you bypass the Mobility driver verification tool.

You could also just install over the ones you have now. I guess.
