Acer 7552G-6061, Quad-core, 4GB RAM, 1GB devoted video, Windows 7 64B Home Premium.

Ran AMD mobility Driver Verification Tool, told to download AMD Catalys v8.0.891.0, Installed.

Now the screen is dim when awakening from sleep. Wiggle the mouse and it brightens.

Have you tried the graphics drivers provided by Acer?  This is a laptop and you should try to use the drivers supplied by your manufacturer exclusively.  If the issue is not corrected then you should contact Acer's support dept and work with them.
