Graphics Card:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History:
Current:
  Display: 8.713.3.2000

Past:

  • 12.4
  • 12.8
  • 12.10
  • 13.1
  • 13.1 Mobility
  • 13.1 Legacy
  • 13.3 Beta

Operating System:
Windows 7 x64, Service Pack 1.

Issue Details:
I have a Mobility Radeon HD 5470. My display driver version is 8.713.3.2000, given thanks to the chipset drivers via Acer.com.

I cannot update without issues. The installers for 13.3, 13.1, and 12.10 do not give me an option for display drivers. Even after running a clean installation, there is still no option. Trying to update through device manager, and selecting the correct installation folder (C:/AMD/Support/XXX), it reports that my drivers are already up-to-date, which is false. I also have a Mobility Radeon HD 4250 listed in DM, which is incorrect as well. I do not have a 4250. The driver version for this is the same.

After updating with 12.8, which does include the display driver option, I get version 9.982.0.0000. However, I am forced into 1024x768 resolution. As well, Device Manager changes my 5470 into just 5000 series, and the non-existent 4250 into 4200 Series.

So, why do the driver suites not have the display drivers listed? Why am I getting issues when updating to those that do have the display drivers listed? And how can I update correctly, so that everything works in the end? I really hope someone can help me with this. As it stands, I never plan to buy another AMD card after this mess.

Additional Details:
I do have .NET 4.5.
This is my exact laptop model. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115855
I have run a clean install, several dozen times.

What did Acer have to say when you contacted them? and isn't there similar posts on the Acer laptop forum? http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/
