I posted in the wrong forum before. Here's the problems I've been having:
Graphics card: AMD Radeon 7970M
Current Driver: 13.4? 13.3? from Device Manager: 3/18/2013 188.8.131.52 (I don't have Catalyst Control Center installed and it won't show up in the Catalyst Install Manager, so I don't know how to find my true driver version)
OS: Win 7 x64
Make/model: Alienware M17x R4
Display: Built-in monitor
CPU: Intel Core i7 3630QM @ 2.40GHz
Storage: 64GB Caching SSD and 750GB HDD
My problem: I'm trying to do a clean uninstall of my current drivers and an install of the 3.5 BETA 2 drivers. I've use the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility to uninstal all AMD drivers, but upon rebooting and during start up I get a brief flash of a blue screen indicating a hardware malfuction. I am then rebooted and pushed into Startup Repair, where I am forced to restore my system.
I've also tried using the Device Manager, Uninstall/Change Programs list, and the Catalyst Intell Manager to uninstall my current drivers, but each produces the same result: blue screen hadware malfuction. I've also tried switching to the discrete Intel Graphics chip before uninstalling the AMD drivers, to no avail. I'm no sure how to fix this problem.
Side note: I've read the "Updating Mobility Drivers" sticky and that leads me to wonder: if I'm using a laptop with switchable graphics, am I then stuck with using only the drivers that Dell releases for my specific model, even if they're very old (September 2012)? Why can't I update to AMD's newest drivers when they are released?
