Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 preview, my Mobility Radeon HD 4550 has shown a "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" message in Device Manager. Much of the time my system works OK, getting by on the laptop's integrated Intel graphics chip, but every once in a while the system's performance dives through the floor; simple things like opening menus take 5-10 seconds. Rebooting the computer (which takes 15 minutes or so) will sometimes fix the problem, but there's no telling when the problem will trigger again. When this problem is not in play, the system works fine - I can do everything normally, and the system reboots in about a minute.
I've tried installing the Windows 8.1 Catalyst Preview Driver; it doesn't seem to make a difference, and my card still shows "The device cannot start" in Device Manager. This problem was not present with Windows 8; it appears to be specific to 8.1 Preview.
