I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad Y560P, with an AMD Radeon HD 6570M on Windows 7 64-bit.

I have updated my drivers regularly since I purchased the laptop in 2011 using the AMD Driver Auto-detect tool, and have been using Folding@Home since October of this year. I recently wished to update to the latest drivers, and thus used this tool, and later just downloaded 13.9 directly from the AMD site. However, each time I run the installer I am met with the "Installation Failed: Install Package Failure!". The log in Event Viewer says;

"Product: AMD Catalyst Install Manager -- Error 1723.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Action SetInstallDir, entry: SetInstallDir, library: C:\Windows\Installer\MSI8E25.tmp"

I attempted installing the 13.11 Beta (same issue), and achieved 'success' with 13.4- however, it completes the installation in mere seconds and seems to change little (Device Manager still shows the driver as being the Windows Update default- version 8.something from 2010). I have researched a multitude of possible solutions and tried them all- CCleaner, Driver Sweeper (or whatever it is now called) Display Driver Uninstaller, I have tinkered with the Windows Update settings so that it does not default to the old driver, re-installed the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributables, etc. No success from any of these solutions. Thus, I fell back on my OEM's driver, which manages to successful install CCC (CCC did not appear when 13.4 'succeeded'). However, Diablo III states that my driver is out-of-date upon launch, and I have noticed performance drops in several games (LoL, D3, and others) and F@H will not run properly, as "opencl.dll" is missing.

Any tips?

Cheers in advance,

I manually downloaded opencl.dll and placed it in the necessary folder, such that that error message no longer pops up. However, now the GPU folding slot simply fails.

Using the Catalyst Mobility Verification tool points me to the same 13.9 driver that continues to fail. I have selected Custom install for both 13.4 and 13.9 when installing them, and only Catalyst Install Manager and HDMI Audio Driver appear. When I install my OEM driver (dating back to 2010, and too out-of-date for F@H and most games) in Custom mode, the ATI Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center are both listed. I would understand if I was doing this for the first time and these updated drivers/F@H did not work, but they have in the past, on this same setup. I have also tried pointing Device Manager directly to the .inf files extracted by both 13.4 and 13.9, using the "Have Disk" option, and have selected the Radeon HD 6570 driver, only to be met with something to the tune of "This driver is not compatible with your version of Windows" (there are 3 .inf's in Drivers/Display extracted by 13.9, and they all return this error). What to do?

Try uninstalling the old drivers using "uninstall a program" from your computer control panel. Reboot. Install these drivers.

Works like a dream, and seems to be folding like one too. I cannot thank you enough stumped! What do you recommend for the future with regard to updating? Obviously that shan't be an issue for quite some time as I am now on the cutting-edge.

Cheers!

I recommend not using the 'auto detect and install". Glad you got it sorted ..Cheers.

Hello! I have the same problem. Everytime I try to install CCC "Installation Failed: Install Package Failure!" appears, although I have unistalled all Ati programs.

However AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta Driver for Windows® which you recommended doesn't support my Radeon (I have HD 5650).

What shall I do?
