Hello,

I am trying to download the 13.12 amd catalyst notebook display driver.

My laptop is a MSI Gx660 with ATI Mobility 5870M. Whenever I try to download the driver after selecting the download location, a dialog box will report that it is successful but the file is only a 47.5kb file that wont install.

Im not sure why Im unable to fully download the file and I cant find a mirror to the file anywhere. Currently im on beta 13.11 v9.5 as it doesnt have to use the utility to download.

Anyone can help me why the utility keeps giving me an incomplete file?

is the mobility drivers as the same as the desktop one ?

the answer is NO !!!!

when you install a desktop drivers on a latop It won't list the display drivers in the setup process. so you can't do this ...

I think we need to wait until AMD fixes the utility mobility tool ... classic AMD

Why can't AMD just link directly to the Mobility Drivers like they do with the desktop drivers?

It's very frustrating to have to rely on a tool that basically downloads from an FTP server, or something akin to that.

I Know what I'm doing, I don't need someone holding my hand with this. I know my CPU/GP(in this case, the specific APU) and I know what I need. Let me get it directly. This intermediary step is a huge annoyance.

And now I'm sitting here with no drivers on my laptop because i EXPECTED this to be available. All I get is 48kb placeholder file.

I'm almost ready to just get the 13.11 beta 9.5 drivers so I can do something.

it seems the file doesn't exist on their server. typical AMD

Do something AMD this is very shameful ..... !!!!

I did a search for the prospective name of the file, which would be "13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe" and came across another forum post that gave me some advice.

Apparently, you have to use a download manager to get the file from http://www2.ati.com/DriverS/mobile/13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe

So get a download manager, otherwise AMD prevents you from getting it, link to that address and you can get the file.

Hence I have discovered that it EXISTS, and if i COULD directly download it, I WOULD have it before now. AMD's download manger is broken and links to an incorrect address or another location that holds a placeholder for the actual file.

This is why I think that intermediate step is DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now I have to go through uninstalling the beta drivers AGAIN, and installing the certified driver.

I gave you the site and the drivers I use and have used for about a year to update my Mobility driver. Instead of thinking too much, try to install them. The difference is, there is no 'mobility compatibility tool'.

release notes:

This deals with the OP question...not yours. The reason he is getting the small download, is it is the " compatibility check" for laptops. You don't need a third party tool to do anything. You just download from the site that doesn't require the laptop checking tool. I've seen enough of these posts to know what the poster is talking about. So KMA and let the poster reply to his own thread.

I have the same problem as the OP and it solved not by your way but the link I posted above ... also you advice the OP to download the Desktop drivers and that's itself lack of knowledge, I am IT pro and I know what I am talking about.

also I can see how you got 5000+ post by just posting for the sake of it.

nothing personal here but stop this ignorant of yours.
