for all versions after the 13.4 version, i get a very very dark screen (i have to use a flashlight to see something)

changing brightness or light doesn't do anything.

so i need to use the amd cleanup to remove this version and to install the good one; 13.4 which works perfectly.

i don't understand at all  and i am not the only with this issue from what i can see on forums.

my laptop :

asus notebook k72jr series

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU

M430 @ 2.27GHz  2.27 GHz

4 Go memory

64 bits

thank you.

So dark that.. does it glow in the dark at all? Driver causing backlight to completely shut off? You should always get drivers from laptop manufacturer site.

ah i forget to notice that my graphic card is AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

that's why i download it from and site. i've always made it before like this and it worked until now

i download the latest version i found on asus site but it's an older one (very old one in fact)

and.. yes indeed it looks like the new drivers causes my blacklight not to work.

you're not the only one with this issue i have an radeon 5730 and it has caused black screens with drivers 13.9 and now 13.12 installed. i too had to revert back to 13.4 and it works fine. So it obv has to do with the driver software, causing black screens on the radeon mobilty gpu's i don't know what is causing it or how many model versions are effected by it, but it's annoying that this is the 2nd time that this has happened and going to my laptop vendors website for drivers is a joke considering they haven't updated their  gpu drivers  for this model in over a year.

As I have a similar laptop and have no issues with the 13.9 drivers. I will tell you how I update my computer graphics. Could you try this method and see if it helps? First, download these drivers for 64bit > here < or 32bit > here < and save them to your desktop. Do not be concerned that they are desktop drivers. Using your computer control panel, 'uninstall a program' select 'AMD install manager and express uninstall all AMD software including the installer. This is if you have a Intel processor, if you have a AMD processor, do a 'custom' uninstall and select the graphics drivers and control panel only. Reboot. Install the new driver suite. Reboot. You should be good to go. The drivers I linked to are the 13.12...I have not put them on my Asus as the laptop is in the hands of my grandkids and I can't get them to give up BF4 for 20 minutes, but it is running the 13.9 perfectly. Let me know if this helps.

that doesn't work desktop drivers don't work with laptop gpu's i've tried it  when  it's finished it doesn't ask for a reboot and even if you restart your laptop manually its as if it didn't install anything in which it doesn't. The only thing  that does is install is the ati manager and nothing else.

If you have a asus notebook k72jr or Asus N71Jq series thanks for your input. If not , start your own thread and post your laptop make, model, and graphics card.

I am thinking it may  have something to do with the Asus graphics controlling software, which is the first thing I deleted when I got it. I kept the sound program and thats all. No one else I know has a Asus, but there are 3 Dell and HP Laptop users within our group using the same drivers. And you are deleting the old driver suite first? Have you tried installing the new drivers thru the device manager? But this shouldn't be that hard. I am going to install 13.12 later and see if there's any issues with my computer installing them. I'll check it out.

edit: Have you checked Asus for a bios update? Have you checked Intel for a update?

i tried exactly like u said, but it doesn't do anything.

in fact, my main problem is i don't know what to do with my graphic card.

it's an amd 5470 but when i am doing updates with amd last versions (not thoses who don't work ofc) it always installs the and 5400 series graphic card. i don't see any differencies, but i'd like to know what's best between them ??

keeping my original graphic card (which was not updated since 2011 on asus site) or installing the 5400 series which is kinda up to date (like nov 2013 version or so) ?

what do u think ?

The drivers will say the 5400 series , which the 5470 is part of. Example...mine says 6900 series instead of 6970. It's perfectly normal.

Well I have some new input. My Asus is attached to a 24" monitor. All drivers including the newest 13.12 work perfectly....until I disconnect the monitor and use the laptop screen. Then it's black/extremely dim. I reverted to the 13.9 drivers...same thing. I have not gone back to the 13.4, taking your word for it that they do work, as I need/want the newest drivers. So I can confirm that there is something wrong with the drivers. Checking Google, I find that this issue is with Asus laptops using either Nvidia or AMD graphics and the laptop screen. Using my VGA monitor...everything works perfect.

i don't even have the original windows 7 oem that came with this cd i reformatted it a long time ago with the windows 7 retail disc with none of the crap ware on it and never had a single issue with it black screening until 13.9 drivers and up. so it's obv has something to do with the driver software as a lot of people i know that are using the mobile radeon 5000\6000 series are having the same issue and there are people with the apu's with the 8000D/7000D series that are also running into the same issue as well around the web. i have the latest bios for it v212 i have the lastest intel chipset 9.4.4 i have all the latest audio, eithernet and wan drivers for it as well. i even tried partition the hard drive putting a fresh copy of windows 7 on to see maybe if it was a software conflict and it still black screened using 13.9 and 13.12 drivers.

As I said, there seems to be a issue with Asus and newer video drivers from AMD or Nvidia. Google 'Asus laptop Nvidia drivers black screen'. Other brands (HP - Dell ) don't seem to be affected. This issue is also happening to newer models than ours....so there lies the hope that Asus will investigate. In the meantime, if you have a monitor laying around, try hooking it up.

okay, i attached my asus to my tv monitor (just for the test) and it was working on the monitor like u said.

my tv monitor is not made for this unfortunately

so that means there's a problem between asus laptops (or maybe other manufacturer i don't kown) and lastest drivers.

i tried something else : with my monitor i went to the device manager, the version was 13.251 and i made the automatic update. it installed the 5470 version 8.672 and it was working and my asus laptop.

trying with older versions like 13.200, it was not working.

so, what i can do is using 13.12 (updated CC etc)version and get back to very old graphic card version  (2011..)OR installing 13.4 version with quite recent graphic card update, hoping they will fix this issue in the future.

what should i do ?

edit : i will try to contact asus to speak about this issue, maybe they'll do something...

I would install the latest driver that works with your laptop screen.
