There is a severe issue with ALL Source engine games (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 etc.) where the Source engine will only detect the Intel integrated GPU even though the game will render with the AMD GPU. This leads to the Source engine locking out dynamic shadows and anti-aliasing options. Let me clarify that this is not an issue with the game using the right GPU to render, it's an issue with the initial detection of the GPU which causes the game to list it's detected GPU as the Intel one, even though you can see that it's rendering with the AMD GPU. Nvidia has already reportedly solved the problem months ago, but AMD users are still stuck with being unable to use these options. Apparently this was an issue with Secure Boot on UEFI PCs for NVIDIA users. However my PC isn't enabled with UEFI/Secure Boot so I'm not sure what the issue is. I've contacted Valve developers about this issue and they've responded with:

"The Secure Boot problem was specific to the NVIDIA driver, IIRC. I would contact AMD for support about this particular issue."

You can see in this image the game detects the Intel GPU even though it's rendering with the AMD GPU. I do not believe that this is a bug that end users can solve, this has to be fixed in a driver patch.

Yes I'm using 8.1 without UEFI. I can try formatting and going to Win 7 if you think that'll change anything.

I know nothing about Win8.1 without UEFI...however you might try running in compatibility mode for Win7....or disable the intergrated graphics.

I attempted to run it in compatibility mode but it did not work. Also, I'm pretty sure that you aren't able to disable the integrated graphics on enduro laptops.

You should have mentioned Enduro...and Win8.1. If you have a old computer with the first version of Enduro you are screwed unless the laptop manufacturer has offered a update to the bios allowing the option of using the dynamic or fixed graphics. Check in your bios...select 'fixed'. If your computer is that old, it may not support Win8.1 anyhow....what OS did your laptop come with?

The computer was built by Sager computers last week. It's brand new. It did not come with an OS as I'm knowledgable enough to install one myself. It's running an 8970m so I don't think "supporting Win 8.1" is an issue at all here.

EDIT: After checking, there's no way to disable Enduro on this model. It seems that only Alienwares have the option to disable it. What a shame, I might end up just swapping out the 8970m for the Nvidia 770m as they know what they're doing with hybrid graphics.

I just did the same with Clevo,,,what is the Sager model number? And no, Alienware is not the only laptop to have that option.

Clevo P150SM/Sager NP8265. The option is not present in the BIOs menu at all.

Do what you have to do...honestly nobody here gives a s**t...this is a user-to-user gaming forum. I can't imagine Clevo offering a laptop #1...with Enduro and 2...not offering a way to disable it. You are using the Sager supplied drivers aren't you? Have you tried talking to Sager? Asking them how to correct the problem? Maybe there is a update? Bios updates from Clevo are non-existent because they are only offered by the company that actually sold the machine...not from Clevo itself. Did you buy direct from Sager? lastly, you should contact AMD technical support through the various channels available and ask for their advice. I would rather have a laptop with 'switchable' graphics than one with Enduro or the Nvidia equivalent.

....the Notebook Review forums have whole sections on Clevo and Sager. Here is a relevant post:

That's unrelated.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/673455-why-you-cant-disable-enduro.html

Clevo lacks the cable that makes it possible to do with MSI and AW. Its a no go because of the lack of required hardware. If you were to disable Enduro on a Clevo, you would get no picture, since the image is always transferred via iGPU.

It's possible on Alienware and MSI computers but not on Clevo/Sager like I stated previously.

Thanks for your time, but I don't see us reaching a solution, I'll look elsewhere and if not, go with the 770m.
