Ok.  I'm stuck.  I've search and seen several possible fixes, but none work for me.  I'm running the ATI Moblity Radeon HD 5470.  Intel P6100.  Asus K52Je.

When I try to update to the latest, everything seems to install fine until I reboot.  The logon sound plays over the speakers, but the display is black.  I have to reboot into Safe mode and uninstall the drivers.  At this point, I'm really up a certain creek you hear about.  I can't seem to find any driver that works and get stuck reinstalling windows. At this point, I'm having to stick with a two year old driver. (The beta doesn't work either.)

I've tried the clean driver thing to remove the old driver files.  I've even used a driver cleaner from 3dGuru (?? I can't remember the name.)  Nothing works.  I'm stuck with an outdated driver.

I have reinstalled Windows three times today alone.  Not my idea of a fun Sunday.

Any help at all?  I know I have an older laptop, but it's the one I currently have.  Any ideas?  I've seen a multitude of similar issues, but I have not been able to find a solution that works for me.

Yup sounds like u got my problem, also tried the uninstall, while uninstalling everythin went to hell tho , had to force reboot , used the so called FREEWARE, but in fact it wasnt free, now was it? Gave some errors but what the frag.  Then i dled the mobility program and started installing,at the end it said durin install were some warnings, check logfile, but lofg file showed EVERYTHIN completed succesfull, yet after reboot once again it only resulting in SAME problem...  Btw the black screen is on the Laptop only, it gives a screen if u connect to a HDMI TV, but oddly enough sound comes from the buildin laptop speakers , like what the frag!

Can some MODS here eleborate on wth this is?

Thnx

scroll thru this laptop forum and the mobility forum and look for similar posts. It is a Asus laptop issue. It works fine with a monitor but the laptop screen is either black or dim. Use drivers that work for you..you are not missing anything.

I emailed tech support and actually got a fairly quick response.  This is where I was told to go:

"For the problem, I suggest you to download ATI driver from the link:http://support.asus.com.cn/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=245&m=K52Je&os=30&ft=1&f_name=VGA_ATI_Win7_64_Z884.zip#VGA_ATI_Win7_64_Z884.zip

Global (DLM) Global P2P Please click on "global" and unzip the files and then install the "setup.exe"."

While this isn't exactly my card, and there were some errors during installation, it did get rid of the black screen.  I got my laptop back.

I can't promise that this will work for you;  it may only be my configuration. BUT, it worked for me.

I could understand them not supporting the laptop if it was 5 years old or something like that.  At a little more than half that you'd think they would still help us poor folks who can't afford to buy a new one every year.

Hope this has been some help.

13.4 seems to be the sweet spot.
