Graphics card model- 6490M

Laptop - HP dv6 Pavillion 6155tx

i5- 2nd gen, 4 GB RAM

I recently upgraded from win 7 to win 8.1 update 1. i then tried installing thdriver provided by the manufacturer. the screen flickered 2 to 3 and times then went total dark on me. checked the amd website, downloaded "14.4 mobility win7-win8.exe" after selecting my particular device, os, etc... installed it.. still unabel to get the "configure switchable graphics" so as to use the gpu when needed.. on right clicking on the desktop i get the option of "ati catalyst install manager" ( something like this) but not the ", configure switchable graphics.. i have tried installing various versions - 13.6,13.8,13.9,14.4 but without any uccess at all.. device manager shows the driver for "7490M" perfectly installed...

COULD ANYBODY HELP ME???

UPDATING MOBILITY DRIVERS

You can't use drivers from AMD. HP furnishes all your updates. Did you check with HP (not Micro$oft) before you upgraded to 8.1? There are plenty of laptop computers that might support Win 8...but do not support 8.1. Check it out.

Using generic drivers will disable the switchable graphics...which is why you have to use the drivers from the manufacturer. The other option is to use the Leshcat drivers...to do so, however, you must have a working set of drivers from the manufacturer.

Just checked HP support site...this model is not Win 8.1 approved and no drivers are available.
