I have a HP Pavilion DV6 with dual graphics cards (Mobility Radeon 4250 and a Mobility Radeon 6550), and recently the Raptr program told me to update the drivers for these, however when i do this it says i have no compatible graphics cards and  i can no longer use the graphics cards at all. In the device manager it claims that my better graphics card is only a 5000.

I can fix this by doing a system restore to before I updated, but then I have an out of date graphics driver, how do i fix this?

Don't know if this extra information will be useful, but its what i can find.

64bit windows 7 ultimate service pack 1

AMD Phenom II N970 quad core 2.2ghz

You need to uninstall raptr. it's giving you bad advice. Do a system restore and get your driver from HP. Your card , the 4200, is a legacy card/chip that cannot use the later drivers...as the 6550 can.

i don't use the small graphics card, it can barely play any games, i have it disabled from the device manager, but if i update i cant use the 6550 at all, which means no games of any kind because no graphics card is being used, and im not uninstalling raptr, i play lots of games and am saving up for a freebie

Install this:

Uninstall driver from 4250 (left with the basic vga driver) and disable it.

Game on.

Don't updates drivers if you don't need to for a newer game, and when you do, make sure they're compatible, lesson for future reference, especially when it comes to laptops, but still good advice for desktops as well.

It sure is.

Unless you have a monster, crossfirex gaming laptop (like lenovo has), with which things are getting more complicated .......
