Hi. I own a HP Pavilion g7 2210sm notebook with 2.4ghz Pentium Dual Core processor, 4GB RAM, 750GB HDD and AMD Radeon HD 7670m 1GB graphic card.

For the last half year since i bought it everything was doing just fine until i played a game of NBA 2k13 (which i used to play all the time) and a Blue Screen jumped out saying "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed".. I was running the laptop on Windows 7 64bit.

Then I tried installing Windows 8 (x64) but the same thing happened just with a different message saying: "THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER"

My laptop was restarting every 5 minutes until I entered safe mode and removed all AMD drivers i had installed. After that everything was working fine without BSODs, but when I try to reinstall the CCC, the BSOD jumps out again.

The thing that bothers me is that i tried to install the driver via some driverpacks i got from a friend, with success.

See? In device manager it says that the driver is installed and functioning properly. And it kind of is... Since i can watch movies and stuff without any trouble. But again when i try to install CCC, my laptop gets shut down once again after a blue screen popped out.

I even tried running a game with installing that driver via driver pack, and without installing CCC. The game tried to start, screen turned black and "loading" sign came up. But after 10 seconds it failed, and guess what came up... BSOD.

So I'm wondering what can I do about this issue.. Or, is it possible to do anything about it. Because I'm really affraid that it's some kind of hardware problem.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I tried downloading and installing multiple versions of catalyst installer but none worked.

Thanks in advance

RW07

I see two issues here...(1) is your laptop supported for a Windows 8.1 upgrade , and (2) you have switchable graphics.

HP laptop upgrade

Updating Mobility drivers

Well I just upgraded my laptop to W8.1 and installed the driver from the HP website and still getting blue screen. Now even worse.. I can't even login into my laptop at all. As soon as I type the password in, it says welcome, and the the BSOD jumps out and PC restarts. Btw can you please explain a bit more the "Switchable graphics" thing?

EDIT: I just entered safe mode and deleted all AMD stuff. Now I can login into my pc again..

This is so weird

 switchable graphics

What is your laptop model? What was the original OS?

Reinstall the 14.4 drivers following the installation guide in the FAQ.

Okay, i tried installing the 14.4 drivers following your guide but it failed again.  Not sure did i mention it but always when I run the install manager and start installing, it comes to the part "Installing AMD graphic driver" the screen starts flickering (yes i know it's normal) but:

1st time screen goes off - turns back on

2nd time screen goes off - turns back on

3rd time screen goes off - when it's supposed to turn on, instead of showing my desktop, BSOD turns on saying something about atikmdag.sys and ofc my laptop restarts.

There's only 1 difference between the last time i installed the driver and the other times.. Usually when i try to install everything and the BSOD jumps out, after the restart, the device manager shows a warning sign (!) next to my Intel HD driver and AMD Radeon driver, so i always had to reinstall them both.. Now after BSOD the device manager is showing both drivers as "working properly".. I guess that's a start..

Checking with HP shows that your laptop is not supported for Windows 8.1 and has this warning :

"" For this reason, HP is unable to provide update instructions or Windows 8.1 drivers. You may lose basic functionality and stability if you try to update your system.""

I would suggest you reinstall Windows 7.

Don't know why i even bothered asking for your help.. You could at least reply "It can't be fixed" if you can't figure it out. Not let me wait for a whole month and still not reply.....
