I have a Samsung NP300 laptop with a Radeon 8750M 1GB DDR3.
When playing games or if used at all it automatically clocks to 825 MHz GPU / 900 MHz RAM, even when it hits temps of 96C-100C. It wont use any of the inbetween clocks like 775 and 650 MHz. The excessive heat from the GPU causes my CPU to throttle. If I use MSI afterburner to downclock to 650 MHz then I have no issues, max temps are at 85-86C
I have to set Power Play to "Max Battery Life" and it will top off at 400 MHz GPU / 600 MHz RAM and then it stays fairly cool.
Samsung advised me to use AMD website drivers and I had the issue even with drivers from Samsung. I examined the VGA Bios ffs module of the bios downloaded from Samsung and clearly there are 650 and 775 Mhz clocks listed, so I dont get why the driver uses the all or nothing settings.
Is there anyway you could add an inbetween profile for powerplay, ie 650Mhz? Intel has - Performance / Balanced / Power Save profiles, why cant AMD do the same.
I am using Catalyst 14.RC1 currently. I have even reinstalled windows with various versions of Catalyst and still the same issue
