Whether or not I select to  install the HDMI audio driver upon installation, my HDMI sound disappears after i installed the latest drivers and catalyst on my laptop. I have windows 8 64-bit, amd a8-4500m processor with built-in Radeon HD 7640G and a dedicated 2gb radeon hd 8750m.

software info: Driver Packaging Version 14.10.1006-140417a-171098C

Catalyst Version 14.4

Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1390

2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}/0000

Direct3D Version 9.14.10.01029

OpenGL Version 6.14.10.12874

AMD Catalyst Control Center Version 2014.0417.2226.38446

If I go to Device Manager, the HDMI sound is still there, its just not usable in the 'playback devices' menu. Now, if i completely uninstall all the ATI software (catalyst, and the driver) my hdmi audio magically pops back into the playback devices list and becomes usable again. dont quite understand why this is going on. for the past few days ive just been uninstalling everything before i hook up my laptop to my tv to watch something, and then reinstalling again later so i can play games. quite frustrating. any help would be appreciated. thx!

Ive gone through, uninstalling and reinstalling each part of the Catalyst package and have determined that it is not catalyst control center but the actual video driver that is preventing the hdmi audio working. How do I fix this issue? just use an old video driver?

I've skimmed through your post so sorry if I repeat something you've already tried but have you tried right clicking somewhere on playback devices and checking/ticking "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" ?

If it works, then you just need to right click the HDMI Audio Output and click "enable" and/or "Set as default device".

If that doesn't work:

In device manager, have you tried

View > Show hidden devices

?

It will show drivers that are not in use; perhaps there are conflicting or duplicate drivers.

If you can identify any, try disabling the conflicting one.

I can't help beyond that (I don't know how to identify conflicting drivers unless their names are obvious or maybe if they're under sound ccontrollers in device manager) sorry as I've not had this problem before.

Ive done the show disabled/hidden devices thing, it just isnt there. it is still there in the device manager but device manager shows that "This device is disconnected" Not just 'not plugged in' as it would say if i just didnt have an hdmi device plugged in. I will try going through disabling the devices to see if I can find a conflicting one. But there is only one "AMD High Definition Audio Device"

went through disabling different devices to see if that made a difference. still nothing. ive tried everything i can possibly think of. done a clean install of the new driver. nothing. i dont understand how a video card driver could possibly be disabling my hdmi audio, because it doesnt seem to have anything to do with the sound drivers themselves. this is getting frustrating. i can uninstall the driver and have hdmi sound but then i cant play videos or pictures from the computer, only streaming over the internet.

EDIT: AND the hd audio bus is also 'disconnected' by the driver.

okay 100 percent sure this is a problem with the 14.1 driver. i just uninstalled the new driver and installed an older one - 13.12. I'm not sure if its unstable to use an old driver with a new version of CCC but it seems to be working for now:

Driver Packaging Version 13.251-131206a-166094C-ATI

Catalyst Version 13.12

Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1360

2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}/0000

Direct3D Version 9.14.10.01001

OpenGL Version 6.14.10.12618

AMD Catalyst Control Center Version 2014.0417.2226.38446

AMD Audio Driver Version 8.0.0.8815

i would however very much like to upgrade to the newest driver obviously, so any ideas are welcome.
