Adaptor: HIS HD2600XT, 2X Dual Link DVI, AGP, 512MB GDDR3, 128-Bit
CPU: AMD 2800+ chip
OS: WinXP Pro SP3, under 300mb on boot, MSSecurityEssentials, no extra progs or services running on boot, I add as needed via bat files, stable system except w/Chrome.
Monitors: dual Dell 19" E196FP's
I've downloaded, 12-4, 12-6, some 11's and I can't seem to choose the correct driver. I've given up on CCC Install Mgr, it fails to do it's thing, I also wasn't able to run the driver detector (not sure what it was called, it flashes then disappears)
Anyway, choosing Have disk gives me many choices, currently Vision Tex Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP, prior version was 2000/2000 and I had some crashes, just went to black & had to reboot; I've not thouroughly tested Chrome on the current Vision Tek driver.
Which driver is correct for the above noted adaptor?
thanks for your post, however I dont' understand... I noted that I have 12.6, along with others but none match my card "sticker" and I'm still asking what driver will match. I'm aware of the page for all the past driver versions.
Each time I select a driver it tells me that it isn't a match.
In the INI file I see many friendly names with what I think are matching vendor numeric equals??
AMD9598.7 = "VisionTek Radeon HD 2600 XT" AMD9588.2 = "ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT"
I'm currently on the VisionTek, but not confident that this is correct as it doesn't mention HIS or Dual Link.
I suppose I could dl & check myself, but are you suggesting that the 10.2 has my version?
Dunno if 10.2 has your specific card listed but 10.2 is the defacto standard for old AGP. I use it on my 1950pro and it even works with win8.. sorta.
HD2600xt should be the same from all manufacturers.

#1: Phenom II C2 955BE @ 3.6, Antec Kuhler 920, Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5, Asus 5870/V2, ASUS Xonar D2X, 4 x 1gig OCZ2N1066SR2GK @800, Antec Truepower New 750, Arc Midi, Win8pro x64 upgrade #2: Athlon 64 X2 4200+, AGP 1950pro, Audigy 2, Asus A8V-D, 2gig ram, Enermax 465P, Antec900. Now on Win8pro cat 10.2
Okay, I took a hint and found the 11-12 which promotes itself as an agp hotfix, and I choose the VisionTek Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP as that most closely matches my card description. However I have no confidence that my dual link card is better supported wiith this driver or would be better served with a different version.
I have solid lines while dragging windows (in contrast to dashed or dotted ghost lines) and performance when Outlook/Hotmail, SBCYahoo and Gmail are all open and winning at freecell, the cards fly up smoothly if a bit slow. With those web apps closed, the cards flash up.
So, I'll run with this for a week and if there are no other issues or crashing then this may be as good as it gets for this legacy mobo & card combo.
I really wish someone knew for certain which driver this Dual Link AGP would run best on.
I shyed away from the older HD 2600 drivers in favor of the XT versions from a warning here (don't remember the thread) that there's a difference.
I get the impression that there are four unique elements;
1. HD 2600 2. XT 3. Dual DVI 4. WinXP Pro
So the current driver hits, the first two & #4, and my hope is that the dual monitors aren't putting an undo strain on the card.
I don't game or do much in the way of graphics, mostly database & programming for lightweight internal business web apps, so this system has been rock solid for the past 6 years. Iroically I have a few un-opened boxes of Win7, pro, home & ultimate that I expect in the next month or so to build a new system for... keeping up with the times...
